Beer's Robo Holsteins, LLC is a family-owned and operated dairy farm in Mascoutah, IL that focuses on high quality and high production. Our family has been in the dairy business since 1965, and moved into a new freestall barn with 4 Lely A3 Next robotic milkers in 2011. In our continued emphasis on quality and high production we would like to hire a herdsman to help us get to the next level of our production goals.

What does this role entail? 

Managing the milk cow barn, including:

• Penning up cows (typically 3-4 cows per pen) and ensuring they get milked in the morning and afternoon
• Moving fresh cows from the calving pen to the robots to milk
• Observing and treating sick animals as needed
• Performing basic robot repairs and maintenance
• Assisting the AI technician by identifying and catching cows and heifers to be bred daily
• Assisting the Veterinarian with herd check
• Identifying and penning up cows for the hoof trimmer
• Any other daily tasks that are required to maintain a healthy and productive herd

Mixing Feed: 

• Mixing four batches and delivering feed daily. We use John Deere skid steers with full cabs, heating, and air conditioning. We also supply a new machine every 2 years.

Other duties, including:

• Feeding calves on occasion
• Moving calves from huts to group housing
• Helping to vaccinate young stock
• Transferring far-off dry cows to a closed-up pen for calving
• Observing the calving pen throughout the workday
• Moving youngstock to a larger pen as they grow
• General farm work pertaining to keeping a dairy farm operational

Beer's Robo Holsteins, LLC offers a salary of $50,000-$70,000 (depending on abilities and experience), 6 days off per month, and 5 paid vacation days per year after 6 months of employment.
