Testing Research Associate 

 

 

The Testing Research Associate is responsible for planning and executing experimental protocols and performance trials in protected culture and/or open field environments to support our vegetable breeding pipelines. In this role, you will operate research equipment, take notes, manage data using internal IT systems, and ensure compliance with seed stewardship standards. You will develop and execute strategic testing plans aligned with business objectives to deliver results within the crops. Additionally, you will capture and analyze data to enable the advancement of vegetable products and contribute to the development of strategies that effectively grow market share. This position requires extended hours during peak seasons, including non-traditional daytime hours and potential overnight travel.

 


YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role are to:

 

  • Plan and execute experimental protocols and performance trials in protected culture and/or open field environments to support vegetable breeding pipelines;
  • Operate research equipment, take notes, manage data using internal IT systems, and ensure compliance with seed stewardship standards;
  • Develop, execute, and continuously improve strategic testing plans aligned with business objectives to deliver results within the crops;
  • Execute protocols and trials to generate quality data, enabling breeding partners to advance new products based on performance and market needs;
  • Capture data in Windows and iOS operating systems (e.g., desktop computing, iPhones, iPads) and conduct data quality checks to enable timely advancement of vegetable products;
  • Leverage metrics applications and quality control processes to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and improvements to protocols;
  • Manage relationships with growers and third-party cooperators to ensure timely completion and integrity of data collection;
  • Create and use tools from collected and analyzed data to develop performance stories and support the transfer of product and agronomic knowledge;
  • Use market understanding, competition analysis, and emerging trends to develop strategies and plans that effectively grow market share;
  • Explore new technologies to increase capacity, accelerate processes, and deploy novel technologies in data collection and crop management;
  • Perform tasks to ensure compliance with Bayer policies and quality standards, including safeguarding equipment, daily use logs, calibration, and maintenance;
  • Work extended hours during peak seasons, including non-traditional daytime hours and potential overnight travel.

 


WHO YOU ARE

 

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Agronomy, or a related field with a minimum of 5 years of crop management experience in open field or greenhouse environments; candidates with a Master’s degree and 2 years of experience will also be considered;
  • Knowledge and experience with agricultural equipment and vegetable crop production practices, with a history of leveraging that knowledge in a research environment;
  • Demonstrated ability to develop project plans, analyze, and interpret data;
  • Ability to perform successfully in a fast-paced, dynamic, team-based environment while managing multiple projects and priorities;
  • Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and achieve business results;
  • Capacity to communicate and work effectively with all management levels in a multicultural organization;
  • Willingness and ability to work extended hours during peak operational seasons.

 

Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $75,984.00 - $113,976.00 Additional compensation may include a bonus or incentive compensation (if relevant).  Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc..  This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
