Senior Process Engineer

 

As a Senior Process Engineer, you provide both tactical and strategic direction for plant operations, serving as the technical expert and a key influencer within internal networks. A significant portion of your time is dedicated to continuous improvement, ensuring the safe, efficient, reliable, and environmentally sound manufacture of active ingredients and intermediates. You deliver informal leadership, support cross-functional collaboration, and drive long-term performance improvements across multiple operational KPIs.

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Operational Excellence and Performance Management:

  • Ensure safe, efficient, productive, and environmentally compliant manufacturing operations;
  • Make tactical decisions and set long-term strategies to achieve area goals in safety, quality, waste minimization, capacity, reliability, and operability;
  • Coordinate with corporate and site production planners on production strategy, sequencing, timing, and raw material availability;
  • Support plant leadership in evaluating, monitoring, and achieving key performance indicators;
  • Investigate performance issues related to safety, quality, environmental impact, capacity, and reliability, and implement effective technical solutions.

 

Technical Expertise and Process Stewardship:

  • Track and manage key process variables and conversion costs pertaining to raw material usage, product volumes, inventory, and technical practices;
  • Provide process information on performance metrics and troubleshooting support to production personnel to identify and correct problems impacting raw material yields, capacity, safety, and product quality;
  • Partner with technical professionals across disciplines (PCT, project engineering, environmental/utility services, and process development);
  • Serve as the process expert and primary plant representative for design, construction, and implementation of capital and investment projects;
  • Create, maintain, and improve plant operating documentation, including SOPs, process descriptions, material/energy balances, P&IDs, and data collection systems;
  • Maintain the Process Management File and approve process changes and deviations from established operating limits.

 

Process Safety and Risk Management:

  • Act as a process expert for HAZOP and other Process Hazard Analysis methodologies;
  • Support timely resolution of identified process safety risks and ensure adherence to relevant guidelines, design standards, and technologies;
  • Propose, design, and execute plant trials focused on enhancing safety, reliability, and performance.

 

Continuous Improvement and Optimization:

  • Provide leadership to multidisciplinary optimization and reliability teams across sites;
  • Help develop continuous improvement goals and support prioritization of resources;
  • Communicate financial and operational performance metrics to stakeholders;
  • Lead or represent the site on corporate teams, facilitating knowledge transfer and best practice sharing with other Plant Engineers;
  • Support Site and Area Production System initiatives, including OnePSS.

 

Collaboration and Leadership:

  • Provide informal leadership, coaching, and constructive feedback to drive development of peers and area personnel;
  • Interface regularly with area management, shift leaders, maintenance, QHSE, and other support services to ensure effective and responsive plant support;
  • Collaborate with Corporate Production Planners, Raw Materials Procurement, Engineering, and Technology groups;
  • Serve on the Technical Core Team for assigned processes.

 

WHO YOU ARE:

 

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

 

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical Engineering or related discipline;
  • Minimum 6 years of industrial operations experience, including process-focused roles;
  • Valid driver's license.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • M.S. in Engineering + 4 years of engineering experience, preferably in a plant operations environment.

 

Position may be eligible for domestic relocation assistance

Posting will be available until April 17, 2026.

Employees can expect to be paid an annual salary range of $ 90,400.00 - $135,600.00. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant).  Other benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc. If selected for this role, the offer may vary based on market data/ranges, an applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
