Senior Intellectual Property Scientist (Breeding) 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role, Senior Intellectual Property Scientist (Breeding), are:

• Responsible for Intellectual Property strategy and portfolio development of emerging technologies;
• Identify and initiate patentable inventions and monitor research progress through review, evaluation, and prioritization of internal research projects;
• Conduct timely Freedom to Operate (FTO) evaluations by conducting searches of patent and scientific literature;
• Responsible for Intellectual Property assessments to minimize FTO risks, identify Intellectual Property opportunities, and patentability through reviews of competitive filings and Intellectual Property landscape;
• Direct research teams and drive alignment with Intellectual Property law;
• Manage our existing patent portfolio;
• Draft patent applications according to business needs and priorities;
• Provide support to patent preparation and prosecution;
• Responsible for development, training, and support of Intellectual Property processes and strategy, awareness, engagement, and compliance;
• Manage Intellectual Property clearance for external presentations, publications, collaboration sharing, and material transfers;
• Build cross-functional relationships to partner with the business and network within the Intellectual Property and Scientific communities.

Required Qualifications:

• Ph.D. OR Master's degree in bioinformatics, engineering, data science, life sciences or related area;
• Experience in evaluating and protecting Intellectual Property, external partners, or agreement strategy;
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and working on changing timelines;
• Strong skills in aggregating, organizing, analyzing, and reporting complex, multi-source information;
• Strong written and oral communication skills;
• Ability to interface effectively and influentially across the organization;
• Ability to travel independently both domestically and internationally up to 20% (including overnight stays).

Preferred qualifications:

• Five or more years of relevant experience (including industrial and educational experience);
• Registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO);
• Prior experience in agriculture.

Position may be based in Chesterfield, MO (St. Louis area) OR other approved US Crop Science site.

Position may include opportunity to work remotely up to 100%.

Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $98,000 to $159,000.? Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant).? Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc..?
