Your Tasks and Responsibilities 

The primary responsibilities of this role are to: 

• Work alongside scientists in both controlled environment phenotyping and molecular disease diagnostics to support the breeding plant health team;
• Complete independent studies in-plantae to further knowledge of pathogen biology;
• Identify, develop, and implement experiments to investigate pathogen diversity both genetically and phenotypically;
• Synthesize and communicate results in a timely and organized manner to project team and key stakeholders;
• Using prior experience and consultations with other team members, solve technical and operations challenges in order to complete experiments on time;
• Achieve commitment to safety and compliance, adhering to safety protocols and best practices.

Required Qualifications

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

Required Qualifications:

• Pursuing a bachelor's or graduate degree in plant pathology, microbiology, or related plant science field;
• Experience with culturing and identifying microbes, particularly fungi;
• Self-motivated and takes initiative to meet goals with minimal supervision;
• Demonstrates ability to drive projects independently and manage time effectively;
• Willingness and ability to relocate for the 12-week internship in Chesterfield, MO;
• Ability to work with and care for plants in greenhouse and growth chamber environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Controlled environment plant care experience;
• Experience with molecular biology techniques such as amplification and sequencing.

Employees can expect to be paid a salary of approximately between $22.10 to $29.40. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant).  Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc..  This salary (or salary range) is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant's location, market data/ranges, an applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
