Your Tasks and Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of this role are to:
- Work alongside scientists in both controlled environment phenotyping and molecular disease diagnostics to support the breeding plant health team;
- Complete independent studies in-plantae to further knowledge of pathogen biology;
- Identify, develop, and implement experiments to investigate pathogen diversity both genetically and phenotypically;
- Synthesize and communicate results in a timely and organized manner to project team and key stakeholders;
- Using prior experience and consultations with other team members, solve technical and operations challenges in order to complete experiments on time;
- Achieve commitment to safety and compliance, adhering to safety protocols and best practices.
Required Qualifications
Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
Required Qualifications:
- Pursuing a bachelor's or graduate degree in plant pathology, microbiology, or related plant science field;
- Experience with culturing and identifying microbes, particularly fungi;
- Self-motivated and takes initiative to meet goals with minimal supervision;
- Demonstrates ability to drive projects independently and manage time effectively;
- Willingness and ability to relocate for the 12-week internship in Chesterfield, MO;
- Ability to work with and care for plants in greenhouse and growth chamber environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Controlled environment plant care experience;
- Experience with molecular biology techniques such as amplification and sequencing.
Employees can expect to be paid a salary of approximately between $22.10 to $29.40. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc..
