Operations Associate in Filer, ID

 

 

 

What You Will Do

 

The Operations Associate is responsible in managing the site’s cutting-edge technology and processes for the Doble Haploid GH and lab processes, that accelerates the production and advancement of hybrid wheat products through the R&D pipeline. This role is a key member of the Site Leadership team and is responsible in driving long-term strategies and operations to ensure efficient laboratory and greenhouse production operations that are compliant with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.  

 

 

 

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

 

  • Provides technical leadership and direction to lab and greenhouse staff on complex research protocols and creating full season operating plans and frameworks to ensure successful hand off of materials and data through the Hybrid Wheat R&D pipeline;
  • Continuously evaluates and improves processes, systems, resource utilization to ensure that the operations meet the production requirements. Partners with key stakeholders to deliver strategies and step-change innovations in the DH program;
  • Provides coaching and mentoring support to laboratory and GH staff on the effective management and utilization of capacities, resources and processes. Ensures that laboratory operations is fully compliant with safety, quality and regulatory requirements to maintain our Freedom to Operate;
  • Develops and executes regular operating plan for the DH lab and GH to meet operational objectives and creates opportunities for value-driven initiatives. Works with the site Operational Guide in developing and implementing strategies and long-term plans for Hybrid Wheat R&D Pipeline Delivery;
  • Partners with the site Operational Guide in managing the site's budget and operating plans and keeping spend on target to meet the company's overall financial objectives. Manages the lifecycle of equipment and assets, and provides technical advice on capital requirements for the laboratories;
  • Identifies, assesses, negotiates and manages ongoing relationships with equipment manufacturers, service contractors to ensure continuity of laboratory operations;
  • Collaborates with In-Vitro Systems, DH and PC Optimization teams in conducting research trials, investigating new methods and protocols to improve the efficiency of the DH Program for Hybrid Wheat.
  • Implements People & Performance Management practices to enable team and individual success. Coaches, Mentors and supports the development of staff;
  • Champions cross-functional initiatives and strategies with other sites.
  • Fosters empowered execution through goal alignment and employee engagement. Reviews team goals/KPIs, strategy milestones, recognize and celebrate wins.

 

 

 

This role contributes to the successful delivery of the Hybrid Wheat Breeding & Trait Integration pipelines through the Doubled Haploid Program. These programs accelerate the production and advancement of materials through the Hybrid Wheat R&D pipeline. This role is responsible in driving long-term strategies to ensure an efficient laboratory and greenhouse production operations that is compliant with safety, quality and regulatory requirements.

 

 

 

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree required in the following preferred degree disciplines: Agriculture, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Business, Engineering, or related;
  • Minimum 3 years work related experience in supply chain and/or manufacturing;
  • Valid Driver’s License. In order to be eligible to drive a company car, your driving record must meet guidelines based on the company’s Risk Screening for Hiring Drivers. MVR will be reviewed as part of pre-employment screening;
  • 5+ years of experience in agriculture R&D and/or production operations, plant breeding and genetics in a technical and regulated environment;
  • Knowledge of production planning systems, strategic capacity planning, supply chain and logistics involving regulated materials;
  • Ability to make decisions and solve problems while exhibiting situational judgment;
  • History of leading continuous improvements and implementing new innovations through cross-functional collaboration;
  • Demonstrated experience leading people and projects in a collaborative team-based environment;
  • 3+ years demonstrated people leadership experience with full-time and contract/seasonal employees;
  • 5+ years of experience in a laboratory or production operations;
  • Demonstrated ability to strategically balance competing interests to drive business results. Highly effective collaborator with demonstrated ability to effectively drive results across different functions and international sites;
  • Proven ability to leverage data-driven decisions and create digital summarizations and insights. Demonstrated ability to influence leaders and front-line managers; 
  • Ability to work extended hours during peak operational seasons;
  • Ability to critically think about the business;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Must have availability to meet overtime demands, including occasional work on weekends and holidays.

 

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Knowledge and experience in plant breeding, laboratory operations, and controlled environment crop production practices and history of leveraging that knowledge in a research environment;

 

  • PhD with 3 years relevant experience, MS with minimum of 5 years relevant experience, or BS with minimum of 7 years relevant experience. Degree focused in Genetics, Plant Breeding, Life Sciences, Chemistry, Engineering or related field.
