YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Nursery Lead, are to: 

 

  • Develop and implement strategic plans to meet production and seed delivery goals while adhering to timelines and budgets;
  • Utilize process expertise to generate and oversee production metrics, ensuring timely delivery of seeds in the appropriate quantities;
  • Collaborate with crop production leads to guide local teams in orchestrating activities such as sowing, pollination, harvesting, seed processing, packing, storage, and shipment;
  • Coordinate data collection and storage for the nursery in alignment with stakeholder priorities;
  • Leverage data-driven metrics to empower operational teams in making informed day-to-day decisions across various processes;
  • Act as a catalyst for continuous improvement by utilizing lean methodologies to optimize processes and achieve measurable results;
  • Collaborate closely with team members, planners, and breeders to align seed production efforts with pipeline goals and enhance logistics for production and inventory strategies;
  • Manage and maintain gene bank strategies to ensure the health and quality of seed sources, enabling timely initiation of discovery projects as needed;
  • Serve as a liaison for inventory strategies and management, applying seed retention policies effectively;
  • Drive strategic resource management in collaboration with other hubs on-site, setting goals for pipeline and budget success;
  • Ensure end-to-end technology adoption for nursery and shipment activities, following the digital strategy (e.g., Velocity);
  • Promote safety and compliance at the site, serving as an advocate and leading by example.

 

WHO YOU ARE

 

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

 

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Biology, or other related fields;
  • Master’s degree in Agronomy, Biology, or other related fields;
  • Proven Experience in Seed Generation/Production Operations: Demonstrated expertise in managing seed production processes, effectively overseeing activities from sowing to harvest, ensuring optimal seed quality and adherence to industry standards;
  • Results-Oriented Catalyst: A proactive, results-driven mindset with the capability to influence and inspire teams to achieve high performance and continuous improvement within seed production operations;
  • End-to-End Breeding Acumen: Comprehensive knowledge of the complete breeding cycle and how it is used to develop new products, from design to launch;
  • Proven Experience in Data Management/Digital Fluency: Ability to manage and utilize data systems, employing digital tools to streamline operations, track performance metrics, and improve overall efficiency in seed generation processes;
  • Strong Analytical Skills: A track record of leveraging data to drive informed decision-making to enhance operational outcomes;
  • Exceptional Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication abilities that facilitate effective collaboration within teams, as well as with stakeholders across various functions;
  • Planning Expertise: Able to connect plans to operations, with the ability to set priorities, allocate resources effectively, and manage timelines to ensure successful project delivery;
  • Collaboration and Co-Creation Across Sites: Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across multiple locations, fostering teamwork and co-creation to achieve shared outcomes and drive innovative solutions;
  • Lean Methodologies: Knowledge of lean principles and practices, with the ability to implement process improvements that enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and optimize productivity.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Master’s degree in Agronomy, Biology, or other related fields;
  • Experience with seed movement and logistics at a global level.

Relocation may be offered for this role.

 

Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $110,876.00 to $166,314.00. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc. This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
