Health, Safety and Environmental Generalist (Farmer City, IL.)

 

As a Health, Safety and Environmental Generalist at Bayer, you will play a crucial role in promoting a safe and compliant work environment across our warehouse, plant, and field operations. Your leadership will drive the continuous improvement of our safety culture and ensure adherence to Bayer's Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) standards.

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Display working knowledge of warehouse, plant and field operations;
  • Promote an environment that continuously meets and improves established Bayer (HSE) Health, Safety and Environment manufacturing fundamentals;
  • Lead the site HSE Safety Program and drive employee engagement, through safety projects and new initiatives, and timely reporting of safety issues;
  • Promote continuous improvement of site safety culture through visible leadership;
  • Drive employee engagement by creating internal audit opportunities with visible corrective action tracking;
  • Develop operational (hands-on) knowledge and functional understanding of at least three key operational areas across the warehouse, plant and field;
  • Coordinate onsite safety programs and provide mentorship to program owners;
  • Mentor less experienced Safety technicians and coach employees across the site on basic safety standards;
  • Ensure compliance with all hazardous work permits and site environmental permits;
  • Support areas across the plant in driving the adoption of 5S practices to maintain an environment conducive to work, aligning with the labeling and ordering of tools;
  • Utilize Focused Improvement (TapRoot) techniques to contribute to the improvement of processes and site safety program(s);
  • Ensure alignment with key HSE stakeholders;
  • Help keep metrics and other relevant information current on visual boards to drive teamwork and facilitate work processes;
  • Participate in DDS (Daily Direction Setting) meetings and follow through on safety-related issues;
  • Shared ownership of all safety related activities at the site including contract safety (CMR).

 

WHO YOU ARE:

 

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

 

Required Qualifications:

 

  • High School Diploma/GED with 7 years of manufacturing experience and 2 years as a Health, Safety, and Environmental Technician;
  • Valid Driver's License. Your driving record must meet guidelines based on the company’s Risk Screening for Hiring Drivers – MVR will be reviewed as part of pre-employment screening;
  • Basic knowledge of IT (Internet, Excel, PPT, Word, facilities with systems);
  • Ability to work during days, nights, rotating shifts, weekends, and overtime as business needs require;
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 60 lbs. (a bag of seed);
  • Good working knowledge of OSHA & EPA requirements and regulations and the ability to train others in this space.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in health, Safety, and Environment, Industrial Hygiene, Process Engineering with 4 years of experience in safety or manufacturing, agriculture, or technical,
  • Certified Safety Professional;
  • OSHA certifications or equivalent.

 

Posting Available until January 20, 2026

Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $90,400.00 - $135,600.00. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant).  Other benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc. If selected for this role, the offer may vary based on market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
