Health, Safety, and Environment Technician 

 

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The HSE Technician will work to ensure sites maintain compliance, protect our business license to operate, and will drive a safety culture at every employee level. The HSE Technician will tactical aspects of the site safety program.

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Health, Safety, and Environment Technician, are to: 

 

  • Drives awareness, ownership, & accountability of the HSE program at the site;
  • Work with site management & HSE staff to achieve desired goals of the site;
  • Maintain HSE programs at the site;
  • Conduct inspections & audits of site as required & participate in seed site safety network as required by site management & HSE personnel;
  • Prepare & retain training documents, job safety analyses, & other documents related to site safety activities as required by site management & HSE staff;
  • With site management involvement, develop cost effective structure to achieve site HSE goals;
  • Conduct HSE training programs in a manner that creates employee engagement;
  • Attend additional educational training as required;
  • Maintain HSE recordkeeping systems required to document compliance with all Bayer & legal requirements;
  • Utilize a risk analysis process to evaluate new & changing processes & the effectiveness of existing requirements;
  • Assist with incident investigations;
  • Collaborate with HSE Coordinators, Specialists and Technicians across the state to ensure compliance, consistency and use of best practices across Hawaii;
  • Position entails driving a company vehicle. This may include being required to drive greater than 5,000 business miles annually in a personal, pooled, or rented vehicle OR being expected to frequently drive a pooled car as part of your job duties regardless of mileage.

 

WHO YOU ARE    

                                     

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

 

Required Qualifications:

 

  • HS Diploma or GED with at least one-year relevant experience to include knowledge of applicable government regulations (EPA, OSHA, etc.) OR Bachelor's degree in related field;
  • Computer skills to include working knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook;
  • Demonstrated communication skills including the capability to clearly present information to influence or persuade others through oral or written means;
  • Demonstrated decision-making ability & problem-solving skills;
  • Detail-orientated & the ability to work on multiple projects with a sense of urgency;
  • Capability to work as an integral team member with site management, ESH staff, & site employees in such a manner as to build high morale & group commitment to goals & objectives.
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Knowledge & experience in hazard recognition, BBS, hotwork permits, & confined space permits;
  • Ability to work days, nights, rotating shifts, weekends and overtime as business needs require;
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 60 lbs. (a bag of seed);
  • Valid driver s license; Driving record (MVR) will be reviewed and must meet guidelines based on the company s Risk Screening for Hiring Drivers.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Bi-lingual skills, & seed production processes;
  • ASP or CSP certifications;
  • OSHA 30 hour General Industry course;
  • Experience in risk analysis techniques.

 

Employees can expect to be paid an hourly rate between $35.28 to $43.18.  Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant).  Other benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc. If selected for this role, the offer may vary based on market data/ranges, an applicant s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
