Direct and supervise the environmental compliance, environmental remediation, and sustainability activities at the site; to ensure ongoing License to Operate for the site to produce elemental phosphorus;
Optimize people performance and development through mentoring, coaching, training, recognition, progression plans, and developmental opportunities;
Have responsibility for people development in the site's environmental engineering and technician community and for exchange of talents across sites;
Take responsibility for excellence in planning and execution of large environmental investments;
Be involve in two significant environmental capital projects that are currently underway:
Mercury (Hg) Emissions Project: This project is currently in final design / construction (Phase 1) for installation & start-up of a full-scale Hg emission control demo unit on the first of four emission trains. This project is being done as part of a cooperative agreement with ID-DEQ to reduce Hg emissions from the kiln operation; and the necessary air permit for installation has been obtained. Installation of the remaining three units (Phase 2) will follow Phase 1 demonstration;
Water Treatment (WT) Facility: This project has three phases, and construction is currently underway for Phase 1 (installation of a full-scale demonstration unit for pumping and treating selenium-contaminated groundwater). Phases 2 & 3 will later add more groundwater treatment capacity, as well as end-of-pipe treatment of site discharge water. This is part of the sites Superfund project; working cooperatively and proactively with both the EPA and ID-DEQ. It will be a new operation at the site, and at first will include three additional personnel (one supervisor and two technicians / operators).
Have oversight responsibility for several remediation projects to address legacy environmental issues / contamination at both the plant site and legacy mines. These are substantial environmental investments, with multi-million-dollar financial reserves. These projects involve routine interactions with several regulatory agencies, primarily EPA, BLM and ID-DEQ; open dialogue with ENGOs, e.g. ICL; and keeping the local community apprised of progress via occasional public meetings at City Hall. It also involves routine interaction with numerous consultants for technical resources / expertise; as well as legal consultants for compliance guidance. Input / feedback is utilized to craft project strategies and messaging to address issues to the satisfaction of all the various stakeholders;
Be responsible for assuring compliance with all applicable environmental regulatory and permit requirements (federal, state, local), as well as related corporate requirements; to ensure continued License to Operate;
Be routinely reviewing new and changing regulations; to determine applicability to operations and to develop compliance strategy for meeting the new requirements in the most cost-effective and efficient manner;
Be a champion for development, implementation and continuous improvement of Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Management systems;
Support, actively, implementation of a corporate HSE Global Management System at the site level. The Soda Springs plant site is also RC14001 certified;
Set strategic direction for the environmental group to not only maintain compliance, but also to ensure necessary resourcing to provide plant optimization project support (e.g., project analyses for environmental impacts, potential permitting requirements, etc.) and to proactively pursue continuous improvement in reducing / minimizing environmental impacts from operations (e.g., emission reductions, waste minimization, etc.);
Propose and conduct initiatives and tools for continuous improvement and to improve decision making and performance across all focus areas through management system using Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), teamwork, standardized work, visual management, focused improvement, and Lean principals (operations per Bayers one Product Supply System (PSS));
Be responsible for developing site sustainability strategy, and to assure data quality for related reporting; both internal (e.g., GRI for corporate report) and external (e.g., GHG emission reporting to EPA, IDDEQ and WY-DEQ);
Represent the Company in respective national industry associations if needed;
Support site involvement to cultivate trust within the community.

Bachelors degree in Chemical and/or Environmental Engineering;
At least 10 years of experience in a chemical manufacturing facility;
At least seven years of experience in an environmental engineering capacity;
At least four years of experience in a people leadership role;
Must have broad knowledge and insight for all federal and state environmental regulations applicable to these sites;
Personal attributes are a proven leader with focus on developing others and teams, creative problem solver and positive can-do attitude, intellectually capable and assertive;
Ability to work on numerous projects at the same time and demonstrated ability to lead and become a catalyst for change;
Effectively leads change initiatives within groups and teams despite conflict;
Ability to interface with all levels of the Company.
