QA Lab Associate
This opportunity strives to contribute to:
- the overall success of Canola Breeding through seed quality analysis from sample receipt, sample preparation and analysis using NIR and GC;
- success of the early R&D pipeline through the implementation of innovative ways to produce quality data while ensuring the sites freedom to operate and compliance with all regulatory, quality and HSE requirements; and
- continuously improves and streamlines processes.
Bayer is committed to a flexible hybrid working environment. This is a 12-month term position, based out of Winnipeg, MB.
What you will do:
- Plans, directs, organizes, and coordinates a safe, efficient flow of operations
- Assists in supervising, training, and development of interns and short- term temporary staff
- Participates in all lab activities and processes including but not limited to receiving and cleaning seed samples, sample preparation for NIR and GC, analyzing samples, uploading data and ploidy analysis
- Assists in managing essential workflow components including but not limited to supplies inventory, update workflow status, create equipment calibration and maintenance schedule, data QA/QC to ensure that all aspects of lab tasks are executed in a timely manner while maintaining quality and safety standards
- Assists is tracking laboratory safety protocols
- Coordinates incoming samples and sample preparation
- Regularly communicates workflow status and challenges with the team and lab supervisor
- Develops and maintains work instructions and safety documents (Job Safety Audits, etc)
- Works closely with other research staff to champion, coordinate and implement process improvements
- Champions innovation, safety and quality initiatives.
- Benchmarks and networks across sites in the company and beyond to share knowledge and advance the operations
Who you are:
- Post-secondary education in the biological sciences or related field
- 1+ years’ experience with NIR, GC and seed quality analysis
- Strong computer software literacy, with experience using Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint and central databases
- Highly motivated, results oriented, with the ability to work with people individually or in a team to gain commitment to achieve those results
- Ability to work as part of a diverse and multidisciplinary research team
- Possess strong ability to work accurately and pay attention to detail
- Strong organization skills and ability to prioritize daily tasks
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
- Valid driver’s license
