General Accountant
Reporting to the Head of General Ledger & Reporting, this position manages the proper accounting treatment on various complex accounting transactions, ensures appropriate financial statement presentation, and partners closely with various Country Cluster business operations. Specifically, this role will provide accounting support with focus on the Crop Science division, but responsibilities may also extend to Enabling and other divisional topics to facilitate any other assignments occurring in a Dynamic Shared Ownership (DSO) organization.
This position is also responsible for supporting global internal ICS audit process, coordinating with internal stakeholders to organize, simplify and deliver audit requests.
The responsibilities of General Accountant are to assist in the completion of the external audit for both the Bayer financial statements and those of Bayer s sponsored post-employment benefit plans.

What you will do:
General Ledger

- Manage complex General Ledger and Financial Reporting accounting functions for Cluster legal entities, and act as primary liaison to GBS (service center) Finance organization
- Exercise professional judgement in assessing the relevant data quality via account reconciliation and plausibility checks and initiate corrective measures if necessary
- Ensure timely and complete delivery of the financial statements and reporting of business and provide information for consolidation. This also includes the data quality (plausibility checks) of activities performed in Service Centers/Hubs
- Perform manual General Ledger postings in accordance with internal policies and processes.
- Assess Accounting/IFRS current practices and procedures. This involves research of relevant accounting topics under IFRS guidelines
- Contribute to business related GL and Accounting activities for complex accounting topics such as financial instruments, goodwill & impairment, pensions, and M&A related transactions to ensure IFRS compliance
- Coordinate relevant and material accounting activities between local Business functions, Global Accounting and GBS Finance teams to ensure the quality and effectiveness of the information provided to support Business decisions

Reporting:

- Maintain and implement accounting procedures and processes in accordance with IFRS and internal guidelines. Identify and review gaps in processes and develop recommendations.
- Provide timely and accurate analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial results.
- Review quarterly and annual financial results with Head of Accounting as well as Local and Global management
- Prepare and report Cluster legal entity year-end financial statements and quarterly Flux analysis
- Manage the accounting activities of Cluster legal entities, including tax reporting
- Support Tax team with responses to CRA inquiries and other Tax relevant requests
- Execute Month end General Ledger close and internal control processes. This involves close collaboration and coordination with global GBS teams to ensure all deadlines are met
- Monitor and analyze accounting data and produce financial reports and analysis
- Prepare and present at quarterly business update meetings with divisional finance business partners
- Solve any issues out of BayRep consolidation tool validation, reconcile statements, prepare OMI and comments, identify and solve issues and perform adjusting entries
- Key member of work team for drafting of financial statements of the Bayer Canada Pension plan.
Audit & Other:

- Participate in audit testing activities of external auditors ensuring maximum efficiency and effectiveness
- Participate directly with Risk Management to assist in the pre work for global internal audits and subsequently resolve all internal audit queries
- Assess all new capital projects for international and internal reporting compliance and collaborate with GBS to resolve any accounting issues related to conversion topics

- Take on topics outside of core scope including asset accounting, management (cost) accounting, and other topics as they arise.
Who you are:

- Bachelor s degree in accounting or related field with 3-5 years of professional experience in Accounting, Finance, Controlling, Auditing or similar fields
- CPA Designation preferred
- Strong IFRS technical accounting background
- Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills
- Competence to grasp complex subject matters and deduce operational activities

- Strong proficiency in MS applications including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Advanced SAP/ DataOne / BI knowledge, preferred, but not required
- Experience working in highly matrixed and global environments
- Proven ability to work in a team and foster a collaborative environment
