Workload Automation Engineer

Role Profile

As a key member of the Infrastructure Engineering team you will be responsible for advancing the introduction and development of workload automation and scheduling tools, principles, frameworks, and processes into ADM and providing guidance and support to Tech Ops and wider GT teams.

This could be through the creation of strategies, roadmaps and implementation plans, creating low level engineering designs or by providing subject matter expert (SME) level support to the Operations teams and Project teams.

The role will suit an individual who enjoys working collaboratively with Engineers and Architects to create holistic solutions incorporating a wide range of systems and technologies, and who is able to bring creativity to the solutioning process.

You will work closely with other Engineers who have specialized skills while cross-training within ADM's core technologies. Both they and you, will be constantly learning from each other.

Role Responsibilities
  • Create innovative engineering solutions and designs within defined standards, or proposing new standards when required, ensuring that designs work holistically within larger solutions.
  • In close collaboration with cross functional architecture teams, develop strategies and roadmaps which support the introduction and continuous improvement of Workload & Scheduling automation platforms
  • Actively develop a workload automation model and workload automation solutions across a variety of technology and business environments, identifying where automation should be used, and working with operations and project teams to implement solutions.
  • Work closely with the other Tech Ops teams to identify, test, and implement automations and scheduling including data pipelines and orchestration.
  • Design roadmap implementation projects, communicating with stakeholders and operations teams to ensure delivery.
  • Maintain a good awareness of Operations activities through regular communication with operations leads and by attending update meetings.
  • Create build instructions for engineering designs and support operations teams during implementation.
  • Undertake requirements analysis of incoming requests ensuring deliverables are clearly understood and agreed with stakeholders.
  • Proactively seek out opportunities for continuous improvement of systems and processes and propose improvement activities.
  • Incorporate security-by-design into all solutions, ensuring that security requirements are considered concurrently with technical requirements.
  • Work closely with Tech Ops tower leads as an escalation point, providing SME support to operations teams assisting with P1/P2 incident resolution.
  • Liaise with 3rd. party vendors when appropriate to create engineering solutions and continuous improvement proposals.
  • Collaborate with Architects to propose, review and implement new standards and technologies.
  • Carry out continuous personal development, ensuring technical skills are kept up to date and non-technical skills are gained and improved.
  • Develop a base cross functional technical knowledge allowing holistic thinking during design processes.
  • Carry out technical reviews of change requests and designs created by other teams.
  • Work with Operations teams to analyse RCA's and design action plans.
Role Requirements

Essential
  • 7+ years working in a specialist Workload Automation Engineering role with an Enterprise and extensive in-depth knowledge of workload automation, scheduling, provisioning, and administration activities.
  • Extensive experience of implementing and developing workload automation & scheduling, including provisioning and administration activities within multiple differing types of infrastructure and application areas.
  • Deep knowledge and experience of workload automation & scheduling tooling such as Zena, Control-M, and IBM Workload Automation
  • A knowledge and experience of scripting and programming languages (PowerShell, JSON, Python)
  • Experience of integrating workload automation & scheduling technologies with a broad range of monitoring tools, in particular CA UIM and DOI.

    • On premise private cloud and multiple public cloud environments
    • Integrations between segregated network zones such as OT, iDMZ/DMZ, IT
    • Incorporating cloud and middleware capabilities
  • Experience of creating technology roadmaps based on strategy inputs
  • Ability to carry out requirements analysis and create detailed engineering solution designs using Visio
  • Experience in providing engineering expertise to Operations teams in support of incident and request resolution
  • Ability to create low level implementation and build documentation
