Technical Manager, Oilseeds and Biodiesel- Decatur, IL

Position Summary:
The Technical Manager, Oilseeds & Biodiesel position requires a scientist or engineer with demonstrated knowledge in oilseeds processing, vegetable oil refining, biodiesel production, specialty fats and oils, and new product and process development and optimization. The purpose of this position is to provide leadership, develop engineering and applications solutions for fats and oils, and be a deep knowledge resource to enhance ADM's oilseeds processing capabilities. This position will work across all global oilseeds locations leading internal and external projects, optimization, and troubleshooting efforts in support of Operation's needs, customer care, performance excellence, and growth projects.

Responsibilities:
•Identify, develop, and implement new oilseeds processing technologies for new products and processes, process improvements, optimization, and troubleshooting to deliver outstanding solutions to ADM Operations.

•Provide expertise in oilseeds processing of various feedstocks for manufacture, production, purification, stabilization, and packaging of vegetable oils, fats, and specialty oils to support customers and commercial teams.

•Provide technical support, including plant troubleshooting, for ADM refined oils and biodiesel businesses.

•Lead mid-sized oilseeds technology development projects to fully de-risk new technologies or applications and lead transition to capital project management team

•Lead technical biodiesel projects with external partners, serving as a technical specialist and attending relevant technical meetings and conferences

•Counsel business units on regulatory changes and ground-breaking technologies in the industry
•Perform basic financial modeling for oilseeds technology development

•Participate where appropriate as an individual contributor and/or team leader on matrix projects within technical area of expertise

•Work collaboratively within R&D and across ADM business units to improve value creation and efficient use of resources

•Ensure documentation completion, training resource availability, and drive project execution while maintaining safe laboratory practices

•Work collaboratively with subject matter authorities and managers to ensure technical work done is with sound, scientific methods to provide high quality information in a resource efficient manner

Education & Experience:
•An advanced degree (PhD or MS with 5+ years of industry experience) or equivalent experience (BS with 7+ years of industry experience) in Food Science, Engineering, or related field.

•Strong technical background in the areas of biodiesel and oils processing, analysis of fats and oils, oils preservation, relevant unit operations and piloting.

•Proven knowledge and experience with unit operations of food applications and ingredient manufacturing at pilot and industrial scales (preferred).

•Understanding of processing equipment and unit operations including, but not limited to extraction, centrifugation, heat exchange, filtration, refining, degumming, bleaching, and deodorization.

Skills:
•Knowledge of developing basic cost models
•Strong organizational skills to manage diverse resources employed in matrix environment
•Able to function within a matrix project management environment, often functioning as a matrix project leader guiding the technical direction of project and driving scientific excellence
•Strong leadership skills to encourage open collaboration, provide constructive feedback and motivate diverse group of project team members
•Good understanding of statistical analysis, concepts, and principles

Requirements:
•Must be willing to travel.
•Travel to multiple locations is expected.
•Comfortable managing/participate in various projects concurrently
•Candidate will need to work within established company and laboratory safety guidelines.
• Willingness to spend time in plant areas, tolerate extreme temperatures, walk long distances, stand, climb stairs and ladders and move through close spaces.
