Your Role

An opportunity has arisen for a Relief Operative (Site Operative) in Avonmouth, Bristol. The main purpose of this role involves acting as Second Miller whenever required, including during instances when the Second Miller is covering the Shift Miller, undergoing training, or absent for any reason. Responsibilities include ensuring the mill consistently produces flour that meets specified quality parameters, adhering to food safety and hygiene guidelines within the plant, and working in compliance with the company's Health and Safety policies. The position also requires assisting the Shift Miller during operations and preparing milling consumables as needed to support efficient production processes.

The successful candidate should be prepared to eventually transition to working shifts as part of their development within the role.

Your Responsibilities
  • Analyse the flour being milled and inform the Shift Miller if it is not in specification.
  • Analyse bulk flour loads during transfer and prepare certificates as required.
  • Analysed other products and stocks as required.
  • Operate the weighbridge when required.
  • Operate the silo wheat transfer when required.
  • Assist the Shift Miller in setting the mill and screenroom machinery to the settings laid down in the QSS or, if not specified, to the setting that produces the most efficient mill output.
  • Identify mechanically failing items of plant. Carry out minor repairs or report major ones to the engineering department.
  • Undertake sifter repairs as necessary.
  • Identify shortcomings within the plant and suggest improvements.
  • Hand over to the next shift in a proper and clean state and communicate any unusual situations to the next Second Miller.
  • Work within the Company Safety and Health guidelines and promote the policy.
  • Ensure all food safety compliance requirements are maintained within the plant
  • Instruct and support contractors on site as required.
  • Support the Shift Miller as required.
Your Profile
  • Experience working shifts in a flour mill.
  • In the process of completing the nabim Flour Milling course.
  • Experienced with Microsoft programmes (including Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams).
  • PLC programme knowledge would be advantageous.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Detail oriented.
