This role ensures safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of processing, blending, storage, and material-handling assets that support seasonal agricultural demand and customer commitments.

The position partners closely with Operations, Engineering, EHS, and Supply Chain teams to improve uptime, reduce unplanned downtime, and extend asset life while maintaining compliance with Canadian regulatory and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute reliability strategies tailored to:
    • Milling assets (grinding, conveying, packaging, utilities)
    • Ag Services (grain handling, elevators, dryers, conveyors, load-out systems)
    • Crop Inputs (fertilizer blending, chemical handling, storage, transfer systems)
  • Lead asset criticality assessments considering seasonality, safety risk, environmental exposure, and customer impact
  • Implement reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) and risk-based inspection strategies

Maintenance Excellence

  • Standardize preventive and predictive maintenance programs for rotating equipment, bulk material handling systems, and process utilities
  • Drive improvements in maintenance planning, scheduling, and execution discipline
  • Optimize spare parts strategies for high-risk and long-lead equipment
  • Improve maintenance readiness for peak seasons (harvest, planting, weather-driven demand)

Operational Support & Performance

  • Reduce unplanned downtime during critical operating windows
  • Support commissioning, decommissioning, and asset upgrades across facilities
  • Act as regional escalation point for chronic equipment problems and systemic failures
  • Partner with Capital Projects to influence maintainability, reliability, and lifecycle cost in new installations

Safety, Compliance & Risk

  • Ensure reliability practices align with:
    • Canadian provincial OH&S regulations
    • CSA standards
    • Environmental protection requirements
  • Support mechanical integrity programs for pressure systems, chemical handling assets, and rotating equipment
  • Lead root cause failure analysis (RCFA) for safety, environmental, or production-impacting events
  • Support emergency response and business continuity planning for critical assets

Data, Systems & Continuous Improvement

  • Leverage CMMS/EAM systems to improve data quality, asset history, and KPI reporting
  • Define and track KPIs such as:
    • Asset availability
    • MTBF / MTTR
    • Reactive vs. planned work
    • Maintenance cost per ton / throughput
  • Use reliability data to prioritize capital investments and lifecycle decisions
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, or similar frameworks

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Provide functional leadership and coaching to site reliability engineers and maintenance leaders
  • Serve as a subject matter expert across Milling, Ag Services, and Crop Inputs
  • Influence without direct authority across diverse operational environments
  • Share best practices, lessons learned, and standard work across Canadian sites

Scope

  • Multi-site responsibility across Canadian Milling, Ag Services, and Crop Input operations
  • Frequent cross-functional collaboration
  • Travel up to ~30-40% (with seasonal concentration)

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or related field) OR

5-12 years of equivalent work experience in reliability, maintenance, asset management, or a closely related field
  • Demonstrated experience supporting Milling, Ag Services, and/or Crop Input operations, including bulk material handling and process-driven assets
  • Proven success leading reliability and maintenance improvements in multi-site or regional environments
  • Strong working knowledge of:
    • Reliability-centered maintenance (RCM)
    • Preventive and predictive maintenance (PdM)
    • Failure analysis and mechanical integrity programs
  • Hands-on experience with CMMS systems (e.g., SAP, Maximo, Infor, JDE)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to manage risk in safety- and environmentally sensitive processes
  • Data-driven problem solver with practical field experience
  • Effective communicator across technical and non-technical audiences
  • Change leader with the ability to standardize across diverse operations
