Position Summary:

The Assistant Commercial Manager is a leadership role responsible for executing a profitable business strategy for the assigned milling assets. The position works closely with operations, quality, and finance teams to meet business and operational metrics. Candidate will successfully manage local grain procurement and risk management, with support from the Decatur milling trade team, focusing on wheat and flour blending and related activities to minimize cost, maximize output and grow profits

Areas of concentration will include scheduling of manufacturing, logistic coordination of inbound grain, outbound finished product and co-products. As well as learning underneath a Commercial Manager to strategically think on growth opportunities, projects, profit and loss analysis and go-to-market strategy. A strong candidate will be a team player who strives to be a continual learner, and leader within the Milling organization with great critical thinking, analytical and communication skills.

The candidate will be responsible for all areas of supply chain and sales and operations planning at the St Louis, MO Milling Hub. The position requires extensive use of Microsoft Office Suite along with other ADM support systems.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the responsibilities related to the Profit and Loss of the Milling business
  • Learn how to maximize profits and identify risk through management of grain procurement and inventories, product sales, execution, and customer service
  • Assist in local wheat procurement and coordinate with centralized wheat procurement, grist manager and local AS&O origination Teams.
  • Work closely with centralized customer service on customer orders
  • Schedule plant logistics and inventories for incoming wheat, outbound flour, and co-products
  • Be responsible for supply chain metrics related to OTIF
  • Coordinate the optimization and execution of bulk truck, rail and packaging lines, including identifying areas of opportunity
  • Be available off shifts and weekends to receive calls if needed
  • Be constantly aware and strive to support the safest work environment possible
  • Participate in daily operation reviews
  • Participate in monthly p/l analysis and review
  • Key Team Member to implement sales and operation planning
  • Work on key Mill initiatives to drive overall growth and strategy
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, economics, supply chain management
  • 2-5 years of experience in milling, grain trading, grain procurement, and/or supply chain.
  • Good working knowledge of Excel, Word, MS Outlook
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks to meet specific deadlines
  • Interpersonal skills with desire to be a team member
  • Effective oral and written communication
  • High performer with initiative to learn other responsibilities
