Refinery Formulator - Lincoln, NE

This is a salaried, exempt level position

Job Summary:

The Lincoln Oil Refining facility is a soybean and palm oil refinery with a capacity of approximately 3 million pounds per day deodorized. The facility also includes a soybean crushing facility and coal fired cogeneration. This is a union facility with an hourly workforce of 85 and a salaried staff of 40 employees site wide, the refinery has 30 hourly and 10 salaried staff. The Refinery Formulator and Shipping Supervisor's responsibility includes formulating oil blends to meet customer specifications and coordinating shipping of those blends between oil sales and logistics personnel. This position is also extensively involved in quality control, food safety, environmental compliance and interaction with oil sales and logistics. The employee will work in a liquid edible oils handling plant environment. This position reports to the Refinery Superintendent.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Emphasizes and requires safety and legal compliance with regulations in the performance of all work.
  • Supports Quality and the Food Safety Management System as member of that team.
  • Evaluates upcoming orders and schedules product runs and raw material deliveries.
  • Ability to evaluate product spec sheets, product lab data and recommend product blends to meet customer requirements.
  • Interacts directly with oil sales, oil logistics, quality control and oil customer support.
  • Ability to cultivate good working relationships with all employees.
  • Interacts directly with department leaders and shift supervision to produce desired operational results.
  • Assist in daily operations as needed and provides coaching and development to employees.
  • Cost and yield conscious.
  • Regular, prompt, attendance and willingness to participate in on-call rotation and accept after hours calls when necessary.
  • Participation in Safety, Environmental, and Quality activities on site, including leading and supporting individual teams or pillars.
  • Inspects equipment and submits work orders for machinery and coordinates repairs as needed
Job Requirements:
  • Experience with Oil refinery operations or QC background is helpful.

  • Passion for process improvement
  • Acts as a team player and contributes when needed, such as spearheading projects or taking on special assignments as requested by the complex manager or superintendent
  • Ensure corporate and regulated rail safety programs and policies are implemented and enforced
  • Maintains a good working relationship with the rail service provider and 3rd party rail movers
  • Conducts and reports commodity inventories
  • Maintains relevant KPIs to measure success
  • Call in maintenance, management, commercial, or shift coverage help as needed
