Quality Control Lead - Erlanger, KY

Position Summary:

As the Quality Lead in our Quality Control Lab, you will oversee the daily operations and staff of the laboratory to ensure all products meet the highest quality and safety standards. Your role is pivotal in maintaining and enhancing our quality assurance processes, managing laboratory procedures, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations. You will lead a team of quality control analysts, coordinate testing activities, and drive continuous improvement initiatives to uphold our commitment to excellence in the food industry.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Leadership & Supervision
    • Lead and mentor a team of quality control analysts, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
    • Schedule and prioritize lab activities to ensure timely and accurate testing of food products.
    • Conduct regular team meetings to review progress, address challenges, and communicate company updates.
  • Quality Control & Testing:
    • Oversee and ensure adherence to testing protocols and procedures for product quality, safety, and compliance.
    • Validate and calibrate laboratory equipment to maintain accuracy and reliability.
    • Investigate and resolve any issues or discrepancies in test results, implementing corrective and preventive actions as needed.
  • Compliance & Documentation:
    • Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, industry standards, and company policies.
    • Maintain and review documentation related to quality control tests, calibration records, and compliance reports.
    • Prepare and present detailed reports on lab activities, quality metrics, and improvement initiatives to senior management.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices to enhance lab efficiency and product quality.
    • Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes to ensure the lab remains at the forefront of quality control.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with other departments, such as Production and R&D, to address quality issues and support product development.
    • Assist in training and supporting other teams on quality-related topics and procedures.


Job Responsibilities:
  • Learn, lead, teach, train, and drive all functions in Quality departments (LSD, Micro, RCC, Analytical)
  • Learn, lead, teach, train and drive all Continuous Improvement & Performance Excellence processes to achieve targets and goals
  • Drive all company initiatives regarding safety, performance, cost savings, continuous improvement & colleague development
  • Work with support departments, teams, and individuals to identify, create, and implement actions required to drive continuous improvements
  • Ensure food safety by maintaining GMPs, HACCP documentation, record keeping, formula adherence, master sanitation, and equipment ula parameter monitoring, PM and Validations, etc.
  • Assist in policy and procedural compliance throughout the manufacturing process as related to established quality standards.
  • Coordinates the daily work duties of the Q.C. Technicians to ensure that the needed checks are made to support production.
  • Assists in the verification that all raw materials and components are sampled and turned in to the labs as well as any other special requests that are made or required.
  • Provides training new training and leadership support for all laboratory Technicians.
  • Ensures all shift activities are conducted under company safety, HACCP quality and GMP/GLP guidelines.
  • Promotes organization and prioritization on a daily basis and fully understands the operation and flow of all processes and equipment in all labs including AS400.
  • Prioritizes and schedules shift exchanges and resources to meet the daily Quality schedule and ensures the best possible customer service and productivity.
  • Provides daily follow up, for all internal partner units, on all orders scheduled for shipment.
  • Enhances the overall Quality Control department's commitment to integrity in results and releases
  • Investigates root causes and sets corrective action plans for all quality departmental deviations.
  • Communicates all shift, quality, safety and personnel concerns on deviations to Department Leadership.
  • Other relevant tasks as required


Job Requirements:
  • Knowledgeable in scheduling, flow of raw materials and intermediates
  • Full knowledge of AS400 unsupervised (picking, pack-out, closeout), full working knowledge of all manufacturing menus/options
  • Ability to receive and give constructive feedback
  • Ability to lead a team
  • Ability to enforce company and corporate policies
  • Conduct all complex and non-complex QC testing which includes analysis of raw materials, intermediate batches, and finished products
  • Maintain appropriate data integrity while conducting testing and ensure technicians adhere to data integrity requirements
  • Conduct and review investigations for any out of specification results and report findings to local QC manager
  • Investigate lab errors and initiate corrective actions to ensure errors do not compound
  • Maintain calibration data of instruments in workspace and ensure all instruments are in working condition before testing is performed
  • Provide feedback and training for Technician I, II role occupants to ensure testing is performed consistently and accurately
  • Fulfill common laboratory cleaning practices to ensure the laboratory environment does not negatively impact testing and ensure technicians in the same area follow these principles
  • Troubleshoot instrument issues and ensure instrument down time is minimal
  • Serve as lead point of contact for other departments, customers, and/or vendors
