About the Position

The QC/QA Specialist is responsible to lead day to day quality control and quality assurance activities to ensure conformance to quality specifications, and provide support to the quality and food safety programs.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support all plant and company safety, environmental, and quality initiatives.
  • Routinely conduct GMP, Food Safety Plan / HACCP, and GFSI (SQF) compliance inspections.
  • Perform verification checks and assessments related to process function, sanitation, procedural practices, personnel performance, and product quality.
  • Collect/submit periodic testing samples and perform analytical testing, as needed.
  • Assist in investigations into the determination of root cause for Quality related deviations/rejections and nonconformities
  • Interface with facility management on findings and corrective actions.
  • Provide guidance on sanitation methodology and chemical usage.
  • Conduct pre-operation inspection of equipment that has undergone maintenance and/or sanitation.
  • Assist with creating standard operating procedures and work instructions with food safety implications.
  • Assists with development and delivering effective training, measures effectiveness of training and makes updates for continuous improvement.
  • Trouble shoot and perform maintenance, calibrations and validations on laboratory equipment such as HPLC, GC, IC, Karl Fisher and Titrators.
  • Ensure that all applicable analytical tests on in-process and finished products are being performed accurately and efficiently.

  • Provide assistance and act as back-up to the facility QFS Manager
  • Excellent communication, problem solving, and good decision making skills are required..


Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Previous experience with running and maintaining lab instrumentation such as HPLC, GC, IC, Karl Fisher, Titrators and other basic laboratory equipment is preferred.
  • Previous experience working in a food safety or FDA regulated environment is preferred.
  • Candidate must be detail oriented with strong documentation and communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time while performing job duties.
  • Must be capable of working from heights, bending, kneeling, climbing stairs, and able to lift 50 lbs. repeatedly
  • Walk to all levels and areas of the process plant and work through seasonal temperature changes
  • Must be available for phone technical support 24/7 and come in for emergency maintenance issues, as needed.
Education or Work Experience
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in chemistry, biochemistry or similar discipline is preferred.
