PT Lab Technician - Marshall, MN

Job Summary

Under limited supervision, the position assists with administrative tasks in the laboratory such as scanning, filing, preparing samples for shipping. The part-time lab technician performs crosschecks on instruments to ensure the accuracy of their results. This position also conducts in-process and finished product testing on dry and liquid products to determine adherence to established specifications of quality and purity. This position will work 20-30 hours per week.

Essential Job Functions
  • Wears the necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) while performing tasks in the laboratory.
  • Collects samples and prepares them for testing at third-party laboratories.
  • Scans and files laboratory and quality department documentation.
  • Prepares starch sensory samples.
  • Assists with cleaning tasks throughout the lab.
  • Performs routine crosschecks on balances, thermometers, and other laboratory equipment to ensure their accuracy.
  • Covers in the lab as needed for safety training, call-offs, and other situations.
  • Continuously works towards learning more about the functions of the laboratory to improve organization and efficiency.
  • Performs analysis of in-process samples and finished products by the defined standard operating procedures for all areas in which they are qualified.
  • Ensures products meet customer specfications before releasing product for shipment.
  • Documents results of all testing procedures and promptly notifies operations and supervisors of required adjustments to operating procedures.
  • Maintains retained samples of shipped products in order to confirm test results, if necessary.
  • Performs light maintenance and calibration on some department equipment to ensure laboratory instruments are operating properly and accurately.
  • Maintains adequate quantities of supplies used for testing procedures, orders necessary supplies, and helps to restock inventory items that arrive each week.
  • Prepares chemical solution as needed.
  • Engages in safety programs.
  • Attends monthly safety trainings.
  • Maintains a neat and clean working area at all times.
  • Works closely with the Day Lab Technicians to assist with sample collection and shipping.
  • May perform reasonably similar or related duties as assigned.
Candidate Requirements
  • Understands how to use a computer and email.
  • Communicates effectively through speech and writing along with other mediums such as email.
  • Stays motivated and shows initiative to complete tasks under limited supervision.
  • Follows all safety protocols.
  • Displays quality work through strong attention to detail.
  • Works with a team mindset by coordinating efforts with colleagues to complete tasks effectively.
  • Is flexible to changing needs and priorities.
  • Is able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Is able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Is able to meet other physical requirements and perform duties in working conditions listed below.
  • Meets requests of supervision including but not limited to the essential functions listed.
  • Is working toward a 2- or 4-year science-related degree (preferred)
  • Has professional or educational experience working in a laboratory (preferred)
