Position Summary:

ADM is seeking a Project Manager to lead the management of capital projects to drive growth and improvements for our Decatur West Plant oilseeds operations in Decatur, IL. The Project Manager will oversee the design and implementation of capital projects as required to meet the needs of the oilseeds operations business including identifying/evaluating project opportunities, requesting authorization for projects, as well as managing a broad range of responsibilities for complex capital project phases of Identification, Definition, Design, Execution, and Evaluation. As a member of the plant leadership team, this role will utilize their engineering and leadership experience to improve and optimize performance, reliability, yields, and efficiencies as well as reduce unnecessary costs across all areas of our Decatur West Plant operations.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Ensure stewardship of viable capital projects from inception to commissioning
  • Effective management of personnel and resources to balance schedules, budgets, and scope/quality of projects
  • Provide oversight of equipment and contractor personnel during the course of projects by working in the field on a daily basis
  • Provide detailed written and verbal communications related to project activities and key metrics to management and other stakeholders
  • Develop requests for proposals, equipment sizing, equipment utility lists, detail P&ID's, and other front-end engineering tasks
  • Proactively participate in safety, environmental, quality, and production processes to ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in developing operating procedures and training production personnel on unit operations for start-ups and process changes.
  • Maintain an awareness of industry trends and investigate the means by which projects can be improved, implemented, and managed - this includes capturing lessons learned and developing best practices to ensure compliance with all relevant engineering standards and internal procedures
  • Develop colleagues through training, technical support, and mentoring opportunities.
Job Requirements:
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Chemical, Agricultural, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering preferred), or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working in a vegetable oil / proteins extraction plant in a production/manufacturing/process engineering or a construction/project engineering role. PSM experience is a plus.
  • Must be able to apply engineering competencies to practical real world situations.
  • This role will design processing systems and equipment required for the production of food grade products, a general knowledge of codes, relevant standards, and materials/metallurgy related to processing equipment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of industrial chemical and food production plant processes and related systems such as: pressure vessels, reactors, distillation, spray drying, piping, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, controls, dry powder technologies, utilities, packaging, and other unit operations is preferred.
  • Strong leadership, management, and interpersonal skills are necessary to be a valued colleague in the team. Interpersonal skills employed include handling conflict, motivating personnel, as well as instructing/training/mentoring less experienced engineers.
  • Must be able to effectively interact cross-functionally with employees and managers at multiple locations.
  • Must be able to continuously improve utilizing independent judgment to solve problems and have excellent organizational skills in order to effectively handle multiple ongoing tasks.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to plan, organize, and manage personnel, budgets, schedules, and other resources.
  • Excellent verbal and detailed written communication skills is required for this role.
  • General knowledge of software systems such as PI, Maximo, Microsoft Office applications (Project, Excel, Word, and SharePoint), and AutoCAD.
Physical Demands:
  • Employee will work in a plant environment and will be expected to initiate work based on general instructions from management.
  • The physical requirements of the job requires ability to climb stairs, lift 50 pounds, prolonged periods of standing and sitting, computer work, working in confined spaces and from heights, bending, kneeling, working adjusted hours, and working as instructed.
  • Prompt and consistent attendance is required.
