As the Total Process Safety Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of leading change. Your role will be to own the implementation of the Total Process Safety (TPS) program, to meet corporate and local compliance standards. You'll leverage your technical expertise and exceptional team-building capabilities to engage our diverse workforce, ranging from frontline to leadership in advancing our TPS program. This role will be based at the Mankato, MN manufacturing plant, reporting directly to the Complex Manager.
The Mankato Complex, located in Mankato, MN, consists of 3 processing plants, and employs ~100+ Plant Operations Colleagues and an additional ~50+ Contractors. This position will collaborate and coordinate with other ADM processing facilities in North America.
Job Responsibilities
Lead, manage, maintain, and improve the process safety program for the facility; implementing and coordinating all process safety activities and lead the Total Process Safety (TPS) Committee.
Establish a safety culture across the facility through a continuous improvement mindset; establishing, reviewing, meeting goals and objectives to mitigate risks and prevent future process safety incidents.
Monitor, evaluate and report process safety performance at the facility, working collaboratively with leadership and the TPS Technology Team to develop and implement improvements to TPS programs and goals.
Work closely with the Global Process Hazard Analysis Manager, lead or participate in local Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) and related action plans.
Lead or facilitate local TPS incident investigations; prepare and share Safety Alerts and Best Practices.
Act as the Process Safety Reviewer on Management of Change (MOC) requests for the facility.
Champion all Critical Safety Devices (CSD), perform Dust Hazard Analysis (DHA) system checks, Hexane detection checks, Equipment guarding.
Act as the facility's TPS representative on improvement projects and capital investment projects.
Provide TPS training across all levels of plant leadership and engineers at the facility.
Maintain and update the facility's PSM programs and manage implementation in the plant to ensure safety and compliance across all areas of the facility.
Participate in PSM and TPS Audits; conduct or lead self-assessments for the facility.
Organize and ensure maintenance of technical process safety documentation.
Act as the facility's Fire Protection System (FPS) Coordinator.
Coordinate Mechanical Integrity (MI) efforts and compliance.
Job Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, or Agricultural Engineering)
2+ years of process safety experience preferably in a chemical manufacturing or agricultural processing facility
Robust experience in applying the 14 elements of PSM
Strong problem solving, diagnostic and analytical skills, with a results focused approach
Strong hands on leadership style, change management and project/program management skills
Excellent time and priority management skills to balance time spent in plant and in the office (70/30)
Strong, effective, reliable, and pro-active communication and interpersonal skills
Must have initiative, a drive for success, a continuous improvement mindset, and a consistently positive attitude and outlook
Keen cultural awareness and the ability to bridge cross-cultural boundaries
Must be able to effectively engage and collaborate with others cross-functionally to drive and achieve results.
Must be willing and able to work in plant areas (i.e. walk long distances, stand, climb stairs and ladders, perform work at heights, walk on catwalks, move through and perform work in close spaces).
Must be able to respond quickly to changing requirements and be capable of working in hot and cold temperatures.
