Canola Crush and Biodiesel Superintendent-Velva, ND

This is a full-time, exempt position.

A Superintendent is responsible for the safety, regulatory compliance, operations, cost management, and colleague development at the Velva, ND Canola crush and biodiesel facility. The Velva Canola Complex is the regions largest Agri-processing facility producing: Canola meal and pellets, super degummed canola oil, biodiesel, crude glycerin and fatty acid. This position will lead a team of between 20 and 70 full time colleagues.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Leads the Operation of the Plant to maintain personnel and process safety:
    • Maintains an environment in which personal safety is the top priority
    • Ensures the team works safe and the department maintains compliance of all health and safety regulations
    • Aligns department goals with complex goals and communicates the direction and priorities to the department leveraging a structured management system.
    • Coordinates operation of the production area to insure adherence to established product, environmental, safety and housekeeping quality guidelines set by the company
    • Demonstrates ADM Core Values in decision making and actions.
    • Collaborates with work groups across the organization to develop a strategic vision for the department that is put into action through the department deployment plan.
    • Supports Quality and the Food Safety Management Systems, may be a member of the Food Safety Team
    • Acts as a key stakeholder to the plant leadership team.
  • Models the way of the Performance Excellence Journey:
    • Leads and Coaches the team to leverage continuous improvement tools to achieve department and plant KPI's.
    • Works closely with Supervisors, Subject Matter Experts, Department Engineers, and Operations Colleagues to deliver flawless execution of the department deployment plan.
    • Work in collaboration with Centers of Excellence to improve technology and reliability of the operations.
    • Conducts Daily Review and Response and works closely with the plant manager and steering team to adjust and adapt.
    • Leads Standard Work discussions with department team.
  • Is an Effective Communicator:
    • Communicate timely with the Plant Manager to escalate situations that arise
    • Interprets and ensures consistent application of organizational policies and procedures
    • Takes on additional roles and responsibilities to continually develop self-and/or other teams
Education/Training:
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work-related experience.
Qualifications:
  • 5+ years' experience in a leadership role
  • Demonstrated Strong commitment and leadership in safety systems
  • A strong understanding of corn processing
  • Experience with Food Safety, GMP, and GFSI
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to plan priorities effectively, including capital planning, production scheduling, maintenance planning and 5 year planning
  • Proficient in mentoring, training, and development of colleagues with both operational and technical backgrounds.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) for coordination, training, and reporting
  • Able to utilize independent judgement to solve problems, have excellent organizational skills to effectively handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and strive for continuous improvement and high expectations for direct reports.
  • Ability to achieve and track excellence using performance driven metrics leveraging Performance Excellence or similar continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, TPS
  • Microsoft Office
