Plant Superintendent - Jackson, TN

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Plant Superintendent to lead and oversee the daily operations of our packaging, warehouse, and related departments at our Jackson, TN facility. This role is critical in ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the plant while driving continuous improvement initiatives, optimizing packaging lines and support systems, and fostering a culture of teamwork and equipment reliability. Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Plant Superintendent will directly supervise up to three department superintendents and indirectly manage a team of 35-40 employees.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee daily plant operations, focusing on safety, quality, production, and compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements (OSHA, EPA, FDA, USDA, HACCP, etc.).
  • Respond effectively to plant, personnel, product, and environmental emergencies.
  • Collaborate with the Plant Manager to execute site-specific goals and objectives.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to department superintendents and multi-department supervisors, ensuring alignment with production expectations.
  • Troubleshoot production challenges, optimize yields and productivity, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, equipment reliability, and operational excellence.
  • Develop and mentor team members, promoting professional growth and achieving plant objectives.
  • Maintain availability to support a 24/7 operation as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of production and supervisory experience, ideally in packaging and warehouse operations.
  • Strong commitment to health, safety, quality, and food safety programs, with demonstrated leadership in these areas.
  • Proven ability to manage a food processing facility using GMP and HACCP methodologies.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong leadership, team-building, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle conflict, motivate, and train personnel.
  • Technical expertise in mechanics, instrumentation, controls, and utility systems.
  • Experience leveraging performance-driven metrics to achieve operational excellence.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and general computer skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to use independent judgment to solve problems and drive continuous improvement.
Working Environment:
  • Exposure to dust and varying temperatures:
    • Indoor: Spring/Summer temperatures may exceed 100°F; Fall/Winter temperatures may drop below freezing.
    • Outdoor: May experience extreme temperatures, high humidity, and inclement weather conditions such as rain, snow, or wind.
  • Noise levels may reach or exceed 85 decibels, requiring hearing protection.
Physical Requirements:
  • Frequently lift and transport materials up to 30 pounds; occasionally up to 50 pounds, and overhead lifting up to 55 pounds. Assistance is encouraged for weights over 50 pounds.
  • Walk up to two miles during a workday.
  • Regularly stoop, bend, kneel, or squat, with periods of prolonged sitting or standing.
  • Operate tools and equipment at various heights, including work on ladders or scaffolding.
  • Full range of motion required to climb stairs, work at heights, and operate equipment.
