Packaging Operator - Quincy, IL

Pay Rate: $23.00/hr. + $2.00 shift differential

Shift(s) Required: 2nd shift, 3:00pm - 11:30pm, Monday - Friday. Ability to work overtime including weekends, holidays, and on occasion different shifts.

Job Summary

The Operator is an hourly position and is responsible for bagging all finished product and loading raw materials into the system per standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the Quincy Crosswind facility.

Facility Expectation
  • Follow the expectations of all Safety, Health, Environmental, and Quality standards.
  • Ensure product quality expectations are met.
  • Follow all facility Good Manufacturing Practices as required.
  • Responsible for ensuring area is kept clean and completion of all listed housekeeping duties per the master sanitation schedule.
  • Work with other Operations colleagues to effectively communicate production issues.
  • Participate in morning toolbox, shift exchange/review and response meetings to communicate your key process indicator performance.
  • Once qualified, provide mentoring and training to new colleagues.
  • Attend training classes in-plant or at other locations as assigned.
Work Duties
  • Perform pre-operational inspections prior to production/packaging startups.
  • Preparing necessary equipment related to quality checks before the beginning of the production/packaging runs.
  • Perform quality checks at the beginning and throughout production/packaging runs.
  • Oversee that products are being made and packaged according to provided specifications and contact the Quality Manager with questions or issues.
  • Document and file all job related quality information.
  • Monitor product to ensure the prevention of cross contamination.
  • Oversee the entire production operation to ensure product is manufactured and packaged correctly.
  • Collect appropriate samples and visually inspect said samples to ensure good product.
  • Maintain work areas and equipment in an organized, clean and working condition.
  • Facilitate documentation of Master Sanitation Schedules.
  • As necessary, collect appropriate samples for various testing at the outside laboratory.
  • Identify and communicate food safety and/or product integrity issues to appropriate personnel.
  • Work in the most effective, efficient, and safe manner at all times.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by management.
Minimum Requirements
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without visa sponsorship
  • Strong fundamental skills (math, reading, writing and verbal communication)
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing environment and/or similar military environment (preferred)
  • Ability to act in a professional manner and adhere by ADM's Code of Conduct
  • Must be able to lift up to 55 lbs.
  • Detailed oriented and self-motivated with a solid work ethic

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Ability to move about on a work site by ascending/descending stairs, extensive walking, climbing steps or ladders, prolonged periods of standing and sitting, stooping, bending, kneeling, or squatting frequently
  • Ability to operate equipment or machinery that may be located at different heights with open view grating from multiple elevations or in confined spaces
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds overhead
  • Ability to traverse two (2) miles or more during the course of a workday
  • Ambient conditions - Work area is, typically, a non-air-conditioned production environment. Working in in extreme heat and cold in all seasonal elements, both indoors and outside on a regular basis.
  • Atmosphere: May come in contact or be exposed to potential allergens - Dust (Peanut - known allergen), corn, cotton, canola seed, chemicals, and odor
  • Must be able to work around vibrating equipment and noise levels that may reach or exceed 85 decibels and will require use of hearing protection for most of the work shift
  • Employees are required to wear all company provided Personal Protective Equipment (i.e., hard-hats, safety glasses, earplugs, uniforms, and steel-toed boots) in addition to job specific PPE requirements (i.e., fall protection equipment and respirators)
