Compensation: Competitive hourly rate with comprehensive benefits, including health, dental, vision, life, and retirement planAbout the RoleADM Milling Co. is actively searching for a knowledgeable and self-motivated quality control laboratory technician (Operator 1) with a food science background to join the team in Port Colborne, Ontario. This position reports to the Quality & Food Safety Manager. The incumbent will perform routine quality control testing of all incoming raw materials, in process samples, and finished products to ensure the product meet the quality specification, maintain accurate and complete test records, investigate and troubleshoot as problems arise and communicate quality information effectively both internally to the team and externally to the customers when required. When not working in the Laboratory, the incumbent will be responsible for sanitation duties in the Mill.What You'll Do
  • Keeping safety a top priority in everything you do
  • Relieving Lab techs when on vacation or sick
  • Complete sanitation duties in the Mill when not relieving in the Lab
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with all health & safety, food safety, environmental, and GMP rules, regulations, and policies
  • Perform all required lab tests on a wide variety of wheat, flour, and bakery mixes adhering to detailed laboratory procedures
  • Document and interpret test results accurately, enter results using a computerized data system, maintain records, and monitor for trends
  • Monitor test result conformance to specifications and initiate investigation and corrective actions as needed, make sure any non-conforming product is identified and placed on hold
  • Conduct positive release to ensure finished products meet customer quality specifications
  • Communicate effectively with other departments, management, and employees including notifying appropriate teams when non-conformances and/or concerns arise
  • Utilize root cause analysis thought process, maintain a proactive approach, and support sustainable solutions
  • Utilize continuous improvement mindset, actively participate in identifying and correcting opportunities to improve processes including participation in the creation and documentation of Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions
  • Retain samples of tested products in order to confirm test results and rotate them when necessary
  • Prepare chemical reagents for analytical tests and monitor chemical and other lab supplies' inventories
  • Ensure all paperwork is filled out in a clear, legible and accurate format and completed with all required information
  • Monitor, operate, maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment
  • Follow QMS and GMP's to maintain a clean, sanitary and safe work area and ensure audit ready status at all times
  • Attend and practice all required health & safety and quality & food safety training
  • All other duties required
What You Bring
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to multi-task, while prioritizing and coordinating daily tasks
  • Possess qualities of motivation, punctuality, and good attendance
  • Must be able to work in a team environment and act independently with minimal supervision;
  • Proficiency in MS Office and basic PC


Education and Experience
  • Must possess a post-secondary education
  • Experience with testing cereal grains, AACC methods, Farinograph, Amylograph, Falling Number Machine and NIR are an asset
  • Must have management or lead hand experience
  • Must have working knowledge of GMP, HACCP, and other Quality and Food Safety Policies
