North Water Treatment Plant Superintendent

Decatur Cogeneration Plant-Decatur, IL

This is an exempt level position.

Job Summary:

The North Water Treatment facility is responsible for the treatment of surface and ground water streams using a cold lime softening process. The water generated is utilized in the grain processing and cogeneration facilities within the East and West complexes of ADM's Decatur campus. This facility falls under the management of the Decatur Cogeneration plant.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Responsible for the day to day activities of the Water Treatment Plant
  • Responsible for long term planning regarding impact of water usage and treatment requirements on the complex including effects on processing facilities.
  • Oversight of operators, maintenance personnel and contractors for completion of daily activities, projects and maintenance.
  • Develop positive working relationships with leaders of all processing facilities within the complex.
  • Responsible for cost control in the department for chemicals, energy, and sludge disposal.
  • Evaluate potential new processes in the Decatur complex and determine suitability concerning water capacity.
Minimum Job Requirements;
  • Strong commitment to safety
  • Leadership/management skills including strategic planning
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to plan priorities effectively
  • Strong communication skills for coordination, training, reporting and analysis
  • Experience with Microsoft Office required
Education/Training:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent. 10+ years of experience in water treatment in positions of increasing responsibility may be considered.
  • General knowledge of cold lime softening as it pertains to water treatment.
Experience:
  • 5 years' experience in water treatment preferred
Certifications & Licenses:
  • IEPA Class A water certification is recommended.

    • The scope of the position requires exposure to and use of chemicals, solvents, and cleaners common to mechanical work that may be hazardous and/or cause injury if specific instructions regarding their mixture, use, and disposal/storage are not properly followed.
  • Water:
    • The scope of this position requires work in close proximity to water as well as water storage facilities, ponds and lagoons. May require use of boats or other floating equipment for the assessment and maintenance of these facilities.
  • Inside areas:
    • Spring / Summer: Temperatures in some areas of the facility will be up to or exceed 100 degrees
    • Fall / Winter: Temperatures in the facility may be at or below freezing.
  • Outside areas:
    • Spring / Summer: Outside temperature may be up to or exceed 100 degrees with potential for high humidity. May be exposed to inclement weather conditions including, but not limited to, rain and wind.
    • Fall / Winter: Outside temperatures may reach freezing or below. May be exposed to inclement weather including, freezing rain, sleet, snow and wind.
  • Some manufacturing processes within the facility are highly reliant on machinery and other processing equipment and, as a result, noise levels may reach or exceed 85 decibels and require use of hearing protection for most of the work shift.
Physical Requirements:
  • Able to lift and transport materials and equipment weighing up to 30 pounds on a frequent basis and up to 50 pounds on an infrequent basis.
    • Lifting or carrying of weights over 50 pounds is rare. Employees are encouraged to request assistance in lifting or carrying objects that weigh more than 50 pounds.
  • Able to traverse up to two (2) miles during the course of a work day.
  • Able to move about or to a work site by stooping, bending, kneeling or squatting frequently during the course of a work day. May require periods of prolonged sitting or standing.
  • Able to operate equipment or diagnose / detect issues of machinery that may be located at different heights. May require work on ladders, scaffolding or other work at heights.
  • Requires a full range of physical motion in order to operate manual and electrically powered tools and instruments, to move throughout the facility, including climbing stairs in all buildings, and to work at heights.
