This is a full-time, exempt position

Position Summary:

This is an entry-level merchandising position that is part of the commercial processing team in Deerfield, MO. This role's primary focus will be on Deerfield's crush merchandising activities, including truck meal trading, rail fleet logistics for both inbound beans and outbound meal, bean/meal spread risk management, and more. You will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with customers and colleagues from other ADM Processing Plants, handling logistics, risk management, accounting, execution, and other customer-related issues. As an entry-level member of the merchandising team, you will develop critical thinking skills, market knowledge, and a foundation for employee development.

Description of work performed:
  • Builds & maintains positive relationships with accounts that bring defined value
  • Seeks out new business opportunities to enhance ADM company assets
  • Understands customer requirements and strives to meet them to differentiate ADM from competitors
  • Assists in developing logistics strategies for inbound/outbound rail movement
  • Maintains a clear customer account list and provides detailed background information in files
  • Handles accounting-related issues in a timely manner to ensure good customer service
  • Makes quick decisions in a fast-paced market while learning to defend them logically
  • Develops an understanding of local, national, and global markets and trends
  • Makes outbound phone calls to deliver and receive timely market information
  • Learns price discovery and bid/offer maintenance to improve risk management and pricing
  • Gains knowledge of margin calculations and their effect on commodity pricing; ensures cost-efficient transportation and logistics
  • Understands the value of ADM-owned transportation (i.e. barges, trucks, and railcars)
  • Develops knowledge of freight spreads and competitor activities

Knowledge & Skills:
  • University degree in agriculture or business (i.e. economics, finance, accounting) preferred; relevant experience in commodity trading or related fields will be considered.
