Intermodal Rail load planner- Decatur, IL

Position Summary:

A Load Planner's primary responsibility is to optimize the transportation of freight by planning and coordinating shipments, ensuring efficient use of resources, and meeting customer needs. This involves tasks like load-building, route planning, and communication with drivers and other stakeholders to ensure timely and cost-effective deliveries.

Must maintain effective communication with the commercial and Plant team. Support

In-Gating and Out-Gating positions as needed, for the common good of the complex. This development may include training, technical support, mentoring and periodic performance feedback. Position is required in meeting deadlines, providing calculated information and prompt attendance is a must.

The physical requirements of the job requires the ability to climb stairs to inspect incoming containers, prolonged periods of standing, sitting and computer work.

Responsibilities include:
  • Load Optimization: Combining shipments into efficient loads to maximize rail capacity and minimize missed port cuts. Track incoming import loads to ensure they meet our customer's needs.
  • Communication: Communicating with drivers, dispatchers, and customers to provide updates on shipment status, address issues, and ensure timely delivery.
  • Resource Management: Maintaining accurate records and logs of all visitors, deliveries, and other relevant information as needed.
  • Customer Service: Providing excellent customer service by addressing inquiries, resolving issues, and ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, including those related to weight, size, and hazardous materials.
  • Data Analysis: Analyzing data related to freight transportation to identify areas for improvement and optimize processes.
  • Problem Solving: Identifying and resolving issues related to shipments, such as delays, equipment breakdowns, or unexpected changes in route.
Experience and Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree is preferred or minimum of 1-2 years of experience equivalent and prevalent to the position based on description required.
  • Excellent communication skills - both oral and detailed written are needed to be effective in this position.
  • The candidate must be able to utilize independent judgment to solve problems, have excellent organizational skills to effectively handle multiple ongoing tasks, and strive for continuous improvement.
  • General knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Project, Excel, Access, Word, and SharePoint). Data entry and report generation within Excel is required. Must be proficient in learning and utilizing required planning software, Rail Optics and Depo Systems.
