Feedstuffs Trader - Mid Proteins/Soya Meal

Your Responsibilities & Role Purpose

The Feedstuffs Trader - Mid Proteins/Soya Meal will be responsible for achieving company targets and delivering on trading strategies that align with the overall company objectives.

The role requires implementing and executing trading strategies, driving volume through key channels, and contributing to the overall profitability and market presence of the business.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Deliver on the trading strategy for assigned product lines to meet commercial and volume targets.
  • Actively trade through key UK ports and with strategic customers identified by the Head of Feedstuffs.
  • Maintain a strong and current understanding of the UK feedstuffs market, with a focus on Mid Proteins/Soya Meal.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with departments such as Crushing, Global Trading, Shipping, Ex-Store Admin, and Logistics to ensure seamless and profitable execution.
  • Build and nurture long-term relationships with key customers, developing a clear understanding of their needs and preferences.
  • Share relevant market insights during weekly trading meetings and contribute to the wider Global Trade group via regular reporting.
  • Monitor and manage trading P&L, considering logistics, trade mechanics, and foreign exchange impacts.
  • Work closely with the Logistics and Shipping teams to optimize cost efficiency in trade execution.
  • Generate reports to analyse customer behaviour and uncover new trading opportunities.
  • Support team performance by sharing knowledge, mentoring colleagues, and stepping in for peers when required.
Your Profile
  • A degree in Agriculture, Business, Economics, Mathematics, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Multi-year experience in commodity trading in a similar role
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills with a results-driven mindset.
  • Confident, self-motivated, and goal-oriented with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Effective negotiator with the ability to make quick, data-informed decisions under pressure.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and influence.
  • Commercially astute with an ability to connect product knowledge to market trends.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel; familiarity with trading or ERP systems is a plus.
