Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator

Location: Decatur IL - NAHQ

Overview:

Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) is seeking an experienced and proactive Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Coordinator to oversee and ensure compliance with ADM's EHS policies, programs, and regulatory requirements across multiple locations, including Decatur - NAHQ, GTC, and City Center; Chicago - Global HQ; and other locations across the Decatur region, as requested. The EHS Coordinator will be responsible for implementing safety and environmental initiatives, managing incidents, conducting inspections, coordinating maintenance functions, ensuring proper training, and driving continuous improvement in health, safety, and environmental performance.

This position plays a critical role in fostering a culture of safety and environmental stewardship while ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as ADM's internal standards.

Key Responsibilities:

EHS Program Implementation and Compliance:

  • Ensure ADM's Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) policies, programs, and procedures are effectively implemented across assigned locations.
  • Collaborate with facility leadership and colleagues to promote a culture of safety and environmental responsibility. This role will provide technical and managerial direction to ensure objectives are met
  • Monitor compliance with all relevant local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and other applicable agencies.
  • Conduct regular audits, inspections, and assessments to identify hazards, ensure compliance, and drive corrective actions.
  • Coordinate fire system tests, annual backflow prevent tests, and lead on safety committees.
  • Support Corporate Services department, as needed
Emergency Preparedness:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain effective emergency response procedures for all assigned locations.
  • Conduct emergency drills and training to ensure colleagues are prepared to respond to incidents effectively.
  • Regularly review and update emergency plans to reflect changes in operations or regulatory requirements.
Training and Education:

  • Coordinate and deliver EHS training programs for affected colleagues, ensuring they are informed and demonstrate necessary proficiency in the areas of safety procedures, environmental compliance, and incident prevention strategies.
  • Maintain accurate records of training sessions and certifications.
Incident Management:

  • Manage workplace incidents, ensuring they are reported and entered into Guardian (ADM's incident management system) in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Lead or assist in root cause investigations to identify contributing factors and develop corrective actions.
  • Track and ensure completion of corrective actions to prevent recurrence of incidents.
Environmental Compliance:

  • Oversee and ensure timely completion of all environmental tasks, inspections, and reporting requirements.
  • Monitor environmental programs, including air, water, waste, and hazardous materials management, to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve environmental performance and sustainability initiatives.
Collaboration and Leadership:

  • Act as a liaison between Operations and EHS leadership and local site teams to ensure alignment on goals and initiatives.
  • Provide guidance and support to site leadership and colleagues on EHS matters.
  • Represent ADM during regulatory inspections or audits, as needed.


Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 1-5 years of experience in EHS roles, preferably in manufacturing, food production, agriculture, or similar industries.
Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NFPA and other relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Familiarity with environmental compliance programs, including air, water, waste, and hazardous materials management.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills to ensure timely completion of tasks and reporting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration across multiple locations.
  • Ability to lead training sessions and communicate technical information to diverse audiences.
Technical Proficiency:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with EHS management systems, such as Sphera or similar platforms.
Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to travel between ADM locations, including NAHQ, GTC, City Center, Chicago Global HQ, and Decatur Complex, as needed.
  • Ability to perform inspections and audits in industrial environments including climbing stairs, walking on uneven surfaces, and exposure to varying temperatures.


Work Environment:

The EHS Coordinator will work in a combination of office and industrial environments, with frequent travel between ADM locations. The role requires flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to work in both collaborative and independent settings.
