Entry Level Lab Technician - Decatur, IL

Job Summary

Performs sample analysis, documentation and data entry in a high-volume process-control laboratory, while ensuring compliance with safety, environmental and quality programs.

Essential Job Functions
  • Analyzes production and finished product samples to determine product quality and safety
  • Documents analytical results and lab activities including but not limited to food safety, product quality, housekeeping and hazardous waste generation
  • Reviews in-process and finished product analytical data for completion, accuracy and quality/food safety implications
  • Communicates interdepartmentally, regarding lab activities, analytical data, product quality and food safety
  • Enters analytical data into Lab Information Management System
  • Assists with daily housekeeping duties
  • Performs basic instrument maintenance and repair
  • Reports product quality or food safety issues to QA
  • Understands their role in food safety and quality systems, actively participates in food safety efforts and ensures all activities conform to good manufacturing practices.
Minimum Job Requirements
  • High school diploma
  • Basic math skills
  • Basic computer skills
Education/Training
  • High school diploma; Bachelor's degree in science related field is preferred
  • Continuing education classes, certificate or degree in a science related field or at least one year of experience in a science related field
Special Skills

  • Ensures conformance with policy/programs
  • Judges functionality of lab instruments
  • Judges accuracy of lab data
  • Opens, prepares and analyzes samples
  • Lifts and carries samples, instruments, steel transfer vessels, boxes, supplies
