Why This Role Matters

As an Energy Engineer at ADM Europoort, you'll play a key role in optimizing energy consumption and ensuring compliance with the EU Energy Efficiency Directive (EED). Beyond compliance, you'll help shape the site's long-term energy strategy, exploring low-emission technologies and solutions that will define the future of heat and power for one of Europe's most significant processing facilities.

This is a hands-on, collaborative role where you'll work closely with department superintendents to coordinate efficiency initiatives and plan for the years ahead, while partnering with the EMEA-APAC energy team to align on strategic, future-focused solutions. Key responsibilities

• Identify and implement energy and GHG-saving opportunities across the site

• Calculate, monitor, and report current energy consumption, costs, and KPIs, as well as potential savings and implementation costs for upcoming projects.

• Prepare Capex documentation for energy/GHG-saving initiatives.

• Execute energy/GHG-saving projects (e.g., process parameter optimization, insulation upgrades, heat recovery projects, heat exchanger improvements).

• Identify and implement operational improvements (e.g., heat exchanger monitoring, process parameter optimization).

• Coordinate third-party contractors for project implementation, ensuring compliance with safety standards and technical execution.

• Investigate and evaluate low-emission technologies and alternative energy sources for future competitiveness.

• Implement and maintain ISO 50001 certification.

• Actively participate in site safety and continuous improvement programs.

• Lead and participate in energy audits and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Communicate with external and governmental bodies (e.g., energy auditors, reporting agencies, grant and subsidy bodies).

• Support GHG management systems to ensure compliance with EU legislation.

• Ensure adherence to relevant industry standards and regulations.

Skills:

• Solid energy engineering expertise and passion for sustainability.

• Experience in Steam and Condensate systems would be ideal.

• Excellent problem-solving, diagnostic, and analytical skills with a results-driven mindset.

• Effective communicator and collaborative team player.

• Hands-on mentality with proactive, forward-thinking approach.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (intermediate Excel skills required).

• Fluent in English; Dutch language skills are an advantage.

• Key capabilities: Continuous improvement, performance orientation, problem-solving, agility, resourcefulness, and ownership.

Experience

• Minimum of 3 years of engineering experience, preferably in energy/GHG reduction projects or energy management systems.

• Proven track record of implemented energy/GHG reduction projects.

• Experience in operational excellence and continuous improvement.

• Cross-functional collaboration experience
