About the Position

The Superintendent will assist in all day-to-day activities of the grain elevator. This includes loading/unloading, sampling, grading, transferring, blending, and storage of grain. Maintain a safe, sanitary workplace in compliance with company policies and regulatory agencies. Will be responsible to train and lead hourly colleagues in operations, safety, food safety, and maintaining facilities. Perform special assignments, initiating improvements to most effectively meet operation objectives. Establish and maintain appropriate preventative maintenance, sanitation, and operation schedules.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Executes work schedules based on business needs. Prioritizes shift work, while properly assigning shift resources to effectively utilize their experience, training and ability.
  • Ensures the safety of all personnel through compliance with occupational safety and health regulations, demonstrate safety leadership through participation in all safety processes with a goal of zero injuries.
  • Adhere to and implement Good Manufacturing Practices. Be responsible for the daily plant operations, which include safety and environmental compliance, food safety, quality control, production, cost optimization, inventory control and efficiencies.
  • Recognizes environmental, safety, and GMP hazards and takes actions to ensure the hazards are eliminated so as not to affect employee safety, product quality and environmental purity.
  • Addresses employee concerns and maintains good communications and morale within the department.
  • Works with employees to develop a high level of job proficiency. Analyze maintenance performance and work to improve efficiencies.
  • Fosters a positive working environment amongst all colleagues.
  • Maintains discipline within the department and documents unacceptable behaviors accordingly.
  • Responsible for development of employees. Actively engage in the development & training of hourly colleagues.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills. Utilizes mechanical and electrical expertise to maintain production systems, utilities, buildings and grounds.
  • Collaborates with other facility management to utilize equipment to improve employee safety, production quality, equipment reliability, and overall equipment effectiveness.
  • Remains current with latest and emerging industry regulations and codes relative to systems design and operation.
  • Ensures corporate policies and standards are followed in the execution of daily activities.
  • Lead and analyze preventive maintenance schedules, inspections, and repairs to minimize down time.
  • Maintain a 5-year CAPEX plan to identify cost savings and operational upgrades/replacement of site assets.
  • All other duties required
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Speak fluent English
  • Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record
  • Strong written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with computers, specifically with Microsoft Office
  • Related Industry Knowledge
  • Must have good attention to detail troubleshooting skills
  • Proven experience with High-speed production
Education or Work Experience
  • High school graduate/College Diploma
  • Experience in Agriculture Industry
Health and Safety
  • Work in accordance with local/provincial/federal legislation
  • Understands and is accountable for full compliance with safety and other EHS requirements
