Dry Grind Superintendent - Columbus, NE

This is a full-time, exempt level position.

The Dry Grind Superintendent is responsible for safety, regulatory compliance, plant operations, and overall cost effective production of ethanol and animal feed co-products at one of the largest facilities of this type within the industry. The Dry Grind facility is one department within the larger Columbus Corn Processing Complex, and this position involves management and oversight of both short and long term department objectives including yield optimization, capital planning, and colleague development.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Display a commitment to lead, participate in, and support ongoing safety engagement.
  • Effectively lead department operators, loaders, supervisors, and engineers to achieve established goals and objectives to build a team of high performing individuals.
  • Support the management of policies and procedures that ensure compliance with health and safety, environmental, food safety, and sanitation regulations.
  • Manage daily plant operations including the troubleshooting of production problems, optimization of yields, productivity, and cost efficiency.
  • Assist with development of short and long term strategies for reliability of department assets and capital investment planning.
  • Provide mentoring of both direct and indirect reports for colleague development.
  • Effectively collaborate with all departments within the complex, as well as commercial teams and centers of excellence outside of the complex.
  • Work closely with the Plant Manager to carry out specific goals and objectives.
  • Actively involved with Performance Excellence and Continuous Improvement activities.
  • Examine a variety of losses (safety, quality, production, cost) and apply Continuous Improvement methods to correct and sustain their improvement.
  • Respond as needed to plant, process, personnel, product, and environmental emergencies.
  • Maintain a high degree of availability to a 24/7 operation.
Job Requirements:

  • Experienced or developing leader within the organization. B.S. degree in engineering or related discipline or equivalent experience in a manufacturing facility.
  • Able to utilize independent judgement to solve problems, have excellent organizational skills to effectively handle multiple ongoing tasks, meet deadlines, and strive for continuous improvement and high expectations of direct reports.
  • Ability to achieve and track excellence using Continuous Improvement methods and performance-driven metrics.
  • Technical competence in data analysis, mechanics, instrumentation, controls, and utility systems.
  • Ability to effectively manage available time for optimal results.
  • Excellent communication skills - both oral and written.
  • Strong leadership, management, and interpersonal skills.
  • General computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office.
