Department Superintendent - Southport, NC

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for coordinating the effective operation of the department at the facility. This includes the recruitment, hiring, training and supervision of employees in these areas; specifically, vacation time scheduling, supervising performance, and ensuring colleague capabilities meets the needs of the operation. This position has a key role in helping make sure all safety and quality procedures are followed in the department. This position is responsible for leading the department's operation through the use of the Performance Excellence methodology.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Promotes to employees working safely with environmental awareness and good manufacturing practices in mind.
  • Leads by example with a positive outlook.
  • Coordinates operation of the production area to ensure adherence to established product, environmental, safety and quality guidelines set by the company.
  • Interacts directly with department colleagues to produce desired operational results and employee development.
  • Communicating concerns for safety, environmental, health, and product quality to employees.
  • Listening and responding to employee suggestions and concerns.
  • Keeping plant management informed of all matters affecting the operation of the production area, morale and safety of employees.
  • Interacting with peers and Shift Superintendents in other production areas to provide operational stability.
  • Conducting safety and quality training meetings.
  • Continually fine-tuning and optimizing the process, to improve efficiency and safety in the production area.
  • Facilitates troubleshooting efforts and addresses production limiting factors.
  • Serves as a primary contact for operational, production and maintenance planning, giving guidance as to the priorities.
  • Available as a departmental on-call resource for resolution of any production and/or quality issues that may arise during the evening and/or weekend.
  • Supports Quality and the Food Safety Management System and possibly as member of the Food Safety Team.
  • Is the primary point of contact for the Facility Environmental department and partners with them to ensure environmental compliance.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering plus 5 years of experience, or a minimum of 10 yrs. of related production supervision, in a production leadership role.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership in plant safety programs.
  • Excellent communication skills - both oral and written.
  • Strong leadership, management and interpersonal skills.
  • Technical competence in process mechanics, instrumentation, controls, calculations and utility systems.
  • Ability to achieve and track excellence using performance-driven metrics.
  • Proficient computer skills (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Ability to effectively manage time for optimal results.
  • The physical requirements of the position require the ability to climb stairs, periods of standing and setting, working in confined spaces, from heights, bending, kneeling, and the ability to lift 50lbs.
