Accounting Manager, Agrinational Insurance Company - Chicago, IL

This is an exempt level position.

Position Summary:

Agrinational Insurance Company is ADM's captive insurance company providing insurance coverage to ADM's operations and corporate enterprise activities. The Accounting Manager, Agrinational Insurance Company (Agrinational) will play a critical role in ADM's accounting team. Accounting managers play a key role in ensuring monthly accounting and reporting activities are completed in a timely and accurate manner. They build leadership skills by seeking out formal and informal opportunities to develop, demonstrate abilities to partner with business leaders, and lead and manage accounting work. Managers display a strong understanding of accounting systems and processes and demonstrate ability to "think outside the box" by applying creative solutions to situations. Managers also demonstrate strong skill in identifying opportunities for improvement to departmental accuracy, timeliness and efficiency, and implementing feasible solutions.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Ensure accurate monthly reporting and analysis of Agrinational results
  • Support and provide oversight of third party Agrinational accounting team
  • Ensure effective control environment and compliance with SOX control requirements including balance sheet reconciliations and compliance with US GAAP accounting requirements
  • Collaborate with various finance and business teams within the organization to identify and improve processes and maintain strong relationships across these teams
  • Ensure Agrinational results are properly reflected in ADM consolidated reporting and intercompany premiums and claim settlements eliminate as needed
  • Complete driver-based plans and forecasts aligned to monthly actuals reporting
  • Work with business partners to develop ad hoc financial analysis requests for senior management
  • Partner with insurance team on financial aspects of annual policy renewals, premium allocations to ADM business units, and claim settlements
  • Lead coordination with external auditors for Agrinational component of consolidated ADM audit and Agrinational statutory audit
  • Ability to influence others within a matrix environment including senior management
  • Ability to lead, prioritize, monitor, and manage several existing projects with tight deadlines using project management skills and techniques
Required Skills:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
  • Strong financial analysis and financial insight skills
  • Visualization and communication skills (to a wide range of audiences both technical and non-technical) is required
  • Ability to work independently
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft programs
Desired Skills:
  • Strong functional understanding, or expectation to learn, ADM's operating structure
  • Experience with Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) is a plus
  • Understanding of insurance industry accounting methods is a plus
Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
Required Experience:
  • 7+ years of accounting experience. Insurance accounting experience is preferred.
  • Experience and ability to coach and influence others, provide clear expectations and feedback, both positive and constructive
  • Experience executing financial analysis processes
  • Visualization and communication skills (to a wide range of audiences both technical and non-technical) is required
