JOB OVERVIEW
As our cooperative continues to grow and prepares for an exciting future, the ALCIVIA Board of Directors is seeking a visionary and inspirational CEO to lead our dynamic organization forward. Headquartered in the beautiful community of Cottage Grove, just minutes from Madison, Wisconsin, ALCIVIA operates in the heart of the Midwest’s robust economic and agricultural sectors.
The CEO position, working closely with the board of directors and the executive leadership team, has an exciting opportunity to lead ALCIVIA into its next era of growth and innovation. The CEO acts as the cooperative’s strategic leader, guiding its vision and ensuring long-term success across diverse and evolving business areas through the delivery of agronomy, animal nutrition, energy, grain, and input financing solutions, products, and services.
Reporting directly to the ALCIVIA Board of Directors, this role will drive operational, cultural, and financial success, while ensuring the cooperative delivers exceptional value to its members.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Board Relations – Partner with the board of directors to develop, implement, and execute the cooperative’s strategic and operational goals and objectives. Maintain a strong, transparent relationship with the board, rooted in trust and cooperation, while shaping a positive organizational culture that drives performance and engagement across all levels. Support board governance and provide timely information while facilitating effective decision making. Serve as the primary liaison between the board and ALCIVIA staff.
2. Vision and Strategy – Responsible for driving sustainable growth through strategic vision and innovative thinking. This includes analyzing complex issues, anticipating evolving market trends and member needs, and formulating long-term strategies that balance bold decision-making with prudent risk management. Must articulate a compelling and aspirational vision that inspires employees, members, and stakeholders and guides strategic direction. Staying informed on industry developments and competitive dynamics is essential, as is the ability to lead both organic and inorganic growth initiatives aligned with the organization’s future goals.
3. Leadership and Management - Provide clear vision and direction, demonstrating strong decision-making and organizational leadership to oversee daily operations effectively. Build and inspire a high-performing, collaborative team culture, fostering trust, participation, and shared goals. Must possess empathetic listening, emotional intelligence, and the ability to navigate interpersonal dynamics with compassion and trust while clearly communicating goals and the necessary accountability needed to achieve success. Resolve conflicts constructively, foster collaboration, and adapt to changing priorities and needs with flexibility and responsiveness.
4. Financial & Risk Management – Oversee budgeting, financial planning, and performance metrics to achieve organizational objectives, goals, and profitability. Provide fiscal oversight ensuring financial stability, profitability, and prudent risk management. Recommend a yearly budget for board approval and manage the organization’s resources within those budget guidelines. Deliver transparent and timely financial reporting to the ALCIVIA Board of Directors and stakeholders.
5. Operational Excellence - Oversee the operations of the cooperative's core business units ensuring efficiency and service excellence. Lead and support innovation in product offerings, operational processes, and service delivery to be relevant, successful, and competitive in the agricultural industry. Foster a strong safety culture focused on employees and customers while ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
6. Executive Leadership Team Development – Build, inspire, and lead a high-performing leadership team, ensuring accountability and alignment with strategic and operational objectives. Oversee and manage all aspects of executive staff talent development, administration, training, and performance management. Promote a culture of collaboration, innovation, and member focus throughout the organization. Support succession planning and workforce development to meet the cooperative's future needs.
7. Ethical Leadership - Demonstrate unwavering integrity and high ethical standards in all business dealings, lead by example, and embody the cooperative’s core values. Require personal accountability, a willingness to own and learn from mistakes, and a commitment to ethical leadership.
8. Community, Public, and Member Relations – Assure the organization and its mission, programs, products and services are consistently presented in a strong, positive image. Serve as the primary ambassador for the cooperative, advocating for members' interests and shared success while maintaining trust and credibility. Cultivate strong relationships with members and network with community leaders, government agencies, industry partners, and key stakeholders.
