Job Description:

The Opportunity:

We are looking for the right candidate for a very unique shop opportunity. This position wouldcombine operating farm equipment for application of fertilizer to farmers fields within the Sturgeon County community, with various shop and NH3 maintenance and certifications.

 

Equipment Operator:

  • Operate custom application equipment to apply fertilizer
  • Calibrate and check rates throughout the day to ensure accurate application
  • Ensure the proper products and blends are used
  • Monitoring weather and ensuring application conditions is within tolerance
  • Communicate with the agronomist and custom services coordinator to ensure timely and accurate application
  • Communicate with the custom services coordinator of any changes or additional product requirements
  • Communicate with the shop staff to trouble shoot and correct equipment problems
  • Communicate with the shop staff to order parts and confirm purchase order number
  • Responsible for basic equipment maintenance (greasing, cleaning distributors, oil and fluid check, etc.)
  • Keep equipment clean and tidy throughout the season. At the end of the spring and fall season give a complete clean of the machine to help minimize fertilizer corrosion.
  • Complete documentation for each custom job and hand in to the custom services coordinator daily
  • Ensure all products taken from the plant is either used and invoiced or returned to warehouse
  • Ensure understanding of all maps and directions to arrive at proper destination for jobs
  • Communicate and coordinate with dry delivery drivers where to unload product in the field
  • Ensure floater is ready for the next day’s work at the end of the day (Fuel etc.)

 

Shop Technician:

  • Repair and perform maintenance on machinery including forklifts, tractors, augers, spreaders, trailers, conveyers, plant, fertilizer systems, vehicles and plant equipment when appropriate
  • Assist shop staff with picking up parts and equipment
  • Assist customers with loading and unloading products from warehouse
  • Assist in operating skid steer loader in fertilizer facility and snow removal if required
  • Offer training, guidance, and assistance to newer, seasonal staff
  • Access areas within the plant such as the leg towers to make repairs or provide maintenance as required
  • Assist Shop Forman as needed in the shop
  • Conduct repairs and maintenance on customer equipment as required
  • Liaise with customers on equipment and repair information regarding NH3 tanks and spreaders

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years experience in a shop or farm operations setting
  • Strong knowledge of heavy duty equipment operation
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Class 1 license is an asset
  • Class 5 license is a requirement 
  • Must have a clean commercial drivers abstract
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Must be willing to climb heights up to 100 feet
  • Must be able to work extended hours during our busy season
  • Journeyman or Red Seal tickets as a millwright, welder or mechanic (automotive or heavy duty) an asset
