Job Description:

We're seeking a passionate and dedicated Swine Genetic Selection Specialist to join our team and help shape the future of pork production. In this role, you will focus on research data collection, inventory tracking, and production practices for our purebred nucleus animals during the wean-to-finish phases. You'll work closely with your team to drive genetic improvement through collaboration, data integrity, and continuous improvement. This is a mobile position based in the Mount Vernon area and reports to our Farm Manager in Florida Barn at Mulkeytown, Illinois. 

 

This position will include the following responsibilities and day-to-day functions, but is not limited to: 

  • Collaborating with internal and external research and operation staff to execute a research plan on time, of high quality, and within budget 
  • Leading the collection of data as designated in study protocols, including ultrasound technology.  
  • Assisting in daily site logistics for all pig and feed movements.  
  • Performing routine maintenance and validation of research equipment. 
  • Executing quality management system procedures pertaining to research conduct and ensuring regulatory compliance.  
  • Driving biological pig performance by learning and executing daily standard operating procedures.  
  • Participate in on-farm technology evaluations and on-farm process improvements. 
  • Ensure the responsible use of company resources within the operating budget.  
  • Other duties as assigned. 


The successful candidate would ideally possess the following experience and qualifications: 

  • Prior pig production experience is must. 
  • Post-secondary education in Animal Science, Ag. Business, or another related field of study. 
  • 1+ years of pig production experience (preferred, but not mandatory). 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. 
  • Willing to work in a production facility and walk/stand for long periods.  
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment and able to lift 50 lbs.
