Join our team:
The Crop Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing fertilizer, seed, irrigation, and crop protection programs that support high-quality plant production and exceed customer expectations. This role monitors crop health, maintains spray records and chemical usage data, and proactively identifies and communicates production risks to the growing team.
Summary of essential job functions:
- Develop and maintain effective growing programs, including fertilization, irrigation, plant growth regulators, and pesticide applications to ensure quality production and timely crop readiness.
- Monitor crop health and environmental conditions, identifying and communicating potential risks or issues proactively.
- Design and oversee spray programs, ensuring proper execution and compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate spray records, crop surveys, forecasts, and chemical usage and cost tracking.
- Calibrate and oversee irrigation, fertilization, and spray equipment.
- Create and maintain training materials, standard operating procedures, and application documentation.
- Train and support irrigators and pesticide applicators on proper techniques, safety procedures, and best practices.
- Collaborate with the team to improve processes and develop practical solutions to operational challenges.
- Lead by example through professionalism, teamwork, accountability, and a strong work ethic.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas. Ensure compliance with company safety policies and applicable regulations.
Minimum Requirements:
- B.S. or M.S. in Agronomy, Plant Science or Horticulture preferred
- Minimum of 3 years seed propagation experience, crop management, greenhouse operations, or large-scale agriculture
- GA Pesticide Applicator License – or willing to obtain
- Working knowledge of irrigation systems, fertilization methods, spray equipment, and agricultural tools.
- Calibrate irrigation, fertilization and any spray equipment
- Ability to prepare accurate daily reports and production forecasts.
- Experience managing labor, equipment, schedules, and operational resources.
- Results-driven with strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Clean criminal history and drug free
- Candidates must be in good physical condition and able to work outdoors for extended periods of time
- Ability to demonstrate high ethical standards and set a positive example for crew members
- Current first aid/CPR certification, or ability and willingness to obtain one.
- Bilingual English / Spanish is strongly preferred.
