Feed Manager
Nevada Cattle Feeding & Backgrounding Operation
Position Overview
Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is seeking a Feed Manager for a progressive and rapidly growing cattle feeding and backgrounding operation located in Nevada. This family-owned operation currently feeds approximately 10,000 head of cattle while managing both natural and conventional feeding programs. In addition to the feedyard, the operation backgrounds cattle, weans 5,000-6,000 calves annually, and grazes approximately 1,200 acres of crop aftermath and permanent pasture under pivot irrigation systems.
This position offers an opportunity to join a well-established management team and play a key role in the continued growth of a diversified cattle enterprise. The Feed Manager will be responsible for overseeing all day-to-day feeding activities, feed crew management, feed inventory, ration implementation, and feedyard efficiency while working closely with ownership, the Operations Manager, and consulting nutritionists.
The ideal candidate will possess strong feedyard experience, leadership ability, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining consistency in feeding performance, cattle health, and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
· Oversee all daily feeding activities.
· Manage and supervise a feed crew.
· Perform daily bunk calls and monitor feed consumption trends.
· Coordinate ration implementation according to nutritionist recommendations.
· Monitor cattle performance and feeding consistency.
· Ensure accurate feed delivery and adherence to feeding schedules.
· Manage feed ingredient inventories and ordering.
· Track feed usage and inventory levels.
· Coordinate grain processing activities and inventory management.
· Develop and maintain preventative maintenance schedules for feeding equipment.
· Complete daily reporting and documentation of feeding activities.
· Maintain compliance with natural cattle program requirements and documentation.
Qualifications
Preferred Experience
· Previous feedyard, feed manager, assistant feed manager, or cattle feeding experience.
· Experience with bunk management and feed delivery systems.
· Understanding of cattle nutrition and feedlot production systems.
· Experience operating feed trucks, mixers, loaders, and related equipment.
· Inventory management and record-keeping experience.
· Mechanical aptitude and equipment maintenance knowledge preferred.
