Qualifications:
- Previous experience working with dairy calves preferred
- Basic understanding of newborn calf care, colostrum management, and calf feeding programs
- Ability to recognize, diagnose, and treat common calf health issues
- Experience performing calf processing procedures, including tagging, vaccinations, and dehorning
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to animal welfare, cleanliness, and biosecurity
- Previous employee supervision or team leadership experience preferred
- Dependable, organized, and capable of managing daily calf barn operations independently
Job Description:
Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is representing a large dairy operation located in Wisconsin who is seeking an experienced and motivated Calf Manager to lead all aspects of calf care and development from birth through the early growth stages. This position is responsible for ensuring calves receive consistent, high-quality care while maintaining a clean, efficient, and well-organized calf program.
The Calf Manager will oversee daily activities in the calf barn, supervise employees responsible for calf care and feeding, and work closely with other members of the dairy team to ensure established protocols are followed. Key responsibilities include processing newborn calves, administering colostrum, coordinating calf movements between housing areas, and monitoring growth and development through the weaning period and beyond.
This individual will be responsible for observing calf behavior and health, identifying animals requiring treatment, administering medications and vaccinations, and performing routine procedures such as dehorning and general health checks. Maintaining accurate records and communicating effectively with management regarding calf performance and health concerns are essential components of the role.
Additional responsibilities include maintaining inventory levels for calf feed, milk, medications, and supplies; ensuring equipment and feeding tools are properly cleaned and sanitized; and promoting a safe, healthy environment for both calves and employees. The Calf Manager may also assist with calving activities during busy periods and will play an important role in supporting the long-term success of the dairy's youngstock program.
