Assistant Ranch Manager - Colorado

Job Description

Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is partnering with a respected mountain ranching operation in Colorado, seeking an Assistant Ranch Manager to work directly alongside ownership and senior management while preparing to advance into the Ranch Manager role. This is a unique long-term opportunity for a motivated individual looking to build a career with a progressive cattle and hay operation located in one of Colorado's most scenic ranching regions. This position offers a hands-on management opportunity involving all aspects of ranch operations including cattle production, hay production, flood irrigation, grazing management, equipment maintenance, employee supervision, and ranch infrastructure management. The successful candidate will work closely with the current Ranch Manager and ownership team to learn the operation while gradually assuming greater leadership responsibilities. This position is ideally suited for someone seeking a long-term career opportunity with advancement potential into a Ranch Manager position.

Key Responsibilities

·       Assist with the management and oversight of all ranch operations

·       Work directly with the Ranch Manager and ownership to learn all aspects of the operation

·       Manage flood irrigation systems, water distribution, and pasture utilization

·       Oversee grazing programs on deeded land and U.S. Forest Service grazing permits

·       Coordinate cattle feeding, breeding, calving, branding, processing, and veterinary programs

·       Assist with implementation of herd genetics and cattle improvement objectives

·       Oversee hay production activities including irrigation, harvesting, storage, and feeding

·       Maintain ranch infrastructure including fencing, roads, buildings, corrals, and livestock facilities

·       Coordinate repairs, upgrades, spraying programs, and capital improvement projects

·       Maintain and oversee ranch equipment i

·       Participate in strategic planning and long-term ranch development initiatives

Qualifications

·       Previous ranch management, assistant manager, or supervisory experience preferred

·       Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and work effectively with employees

·       Experience operating tractors, hay equipment, trucks, and other agricultural machinery

·       Practical mechanical ability and basic equipment maintenance skills

·       Strong cattle background including feeding, calving, breeding, branding, processing, and herd health

·       Understanding of grazing management and forage utilization practices

·       Spanish language skills are considered a plus
