Job Description:

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Responsible to the Operations Manager, the Production Manager is responsible for supervising and directing production personnel related to the day-to-day operations of the mill, coordinating, directing, and evaluating of work flow and activities of the feed mill employees. The Production Manager is responsible for implementing and maintaining company standards, policies and procedures. This is a "hands-on" position, requiring office time as well as considerable time in overseeing mill staff and being in contact with customers and suppliers.

 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for following biosecurity and other company policies.
  • Responsible for the knowledge of all WHMIS and TDG regulations and procedures.
  • Maintains knowledge of and, executes all Company Safety Policies and Procedures as required by the organization and other regulatory agencies.
  • Responsible for being self-motivated and being able to work independently
  • Maintains and represents a professional and positive image for the company at all times
  • Functions as a team member
  • Performs other related duties as assigned, including holiday relief.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Responsible for feed production and all feed plant related activities.
  • Direct, plan, co-ordinate, and participate in the daily operations of the feed mill.
  • Increase production, assets capacity and flexibility while minimizing unnecessary cost and maintaining quality standards.
  • Responsible for production output, product quality and on-time deliveries.
  • Monitor and ensure that all personnel are properly trained, cross-trained and multi-skilled.
  • Provide a strong "hands-on" style of management, utilizing labour skills and abilities where needed to ensure feed mill needs are met in the most effective, efficient, and cost-effective manner.
  • Assist with and maintain any ongoing certifications and any future beneficial certifications.
  • Ensure Feed Mill activities comply with applicable municipal, provincial and federal authorities; ensure required documents and permits are obtained including CFIA.
  • Update and maintain HACCP program, GMP program, and Safety Programs including regular audits.
  •  Update facility HACCP system to ensure compliance with existing or changing regulatory requirements.
  •  Update SOPs, program and forms as necessary as result of HACCP reassessments and/or when program changes.
  •  Responsible for and the maintenance of the mill operating systems.
  •  Liaises with Maintenance Manager to ensure that the information is shared and reported.
  •  Develop and implement methods of assessing productivity by evaluating and establishing standards to measure the quality and quantity of production.
  •  Develop, implement, and monitor long-term and short-term goals that meet and complement the organization’s objectives and mission statement.
  •  Establish and implement the measures necessary to secure and control access to physical inventory.
  •  Responsible for creating and tracking data for the efficiencies of the mill using appropriate software when applicable.
  •  If an emergency occurs, assesses situation and takes immediate action to control and/or correct conditions, minimizing effect on the Feed Mill personnel and operations.
  •  Collaborate and cooperate with other personnel to ensure that activities are conducted in the best interest of the organization.
  •  Conduct regular performance reviews of personnel by means of scheduled evaluations and when otherwise warranted.
  •  Inform the Mill Operations Manager immediately of concerns or problems.
  •  Ensure all due diligence steps are done immediately and accurately if any employee occurrence does not coincide with company policy.

 

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 2 years’ managerial experience in a production facility
  • 1 year of experience working in logistics

 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Post-Secondary education in Business Administration, Agriculture or Engineering or 5 years of relevant feed mill experience.

 

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to devise new methods and procedures to meet changing needs and conditions.
  • Direct experience with budget preparation and cost control measures.
  • Direct experience with computer software applications, particularly spreadsheets and word processing would be an asset to this position.
  • Knowledge of feed mill operations.
  • Physical strength and stamina to fulfill the required duties and responsibilities.
