Nebraska honored agricultural and academic leaders, including David Briggs and Ronnie Green, while inducting 12 new members for their lasting impact on agriculture and rural communities statewide.

Leaders who have made lasting contributions to Nebraska agriculture and education were honored March 27 at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s annual Nebraska Hall of Agricultural Achievement banquet. The event took place at the Nebraska East Union and recognized both distinguished leaders and new inductees from across the state.

David Briggs, president and CEO of Western Cooperative Company and CEO of Sustainable Beef, was recognized for his leadership in agribusiness. Since 2000, he has expanded WESTCO into a diversified cooperative with 17 locations and more than 200 employees serving producers in western Nebraska and eastern Wyoming. He also played a key role in developing a $400 million beef processing facility in North Platte, which began operations in 2025 and has strengthened market opportunities for regional producers.

Ronnie Green, chancellor emeritus of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, was honored for his contributions to higher education and agricultural research. Serving as the university’s 20th chancellor from 2016 to 2023, Green also previously led the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources. An internationally recognized animal scientist, his work in animal breeding and genomics has advanced research, education and global collaboration.

“The Nebraska Hall of Agricultural Achievement exists to recognize individuals whose leadership and dedication have advanced agriculture for the benefit of our state and beyond,” said Mark Gustafson, president of the organization.

The hall also inducted 12 new members representing a wide range of agricultural sectors, including production, agribusiness, extension and natural resources. Each was recognized for innovation and long-term contributions that continue to strengthen Nebraska agriculture and rural communities.

Founded in 1916, the Nebraska Hall of Agricultural Achievement celebrates individuals whose work has had a lasting impact on the state’s agricultural legacy.
