Media ArticleThe University of Kentucky Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment has announced the 2026 recipients of The Bill Gatton Foundation Professorships. Supported by a historic $100 million gift from The Bill Gatton Foundation, the program promotes innovative research, teaching, Extension efforts, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
The professorships provide three years of support to faculty members who have demonstrated excellence in research, teaching, and service. The awards are designed to encourage new ideas, strengthen partnerships, expand student opportunities, and address challenges facing agriculture, food systems, environmental stewardship, and public health.
The 2026 Distinguished Professors are leading research projects in several key areas. Their work includes indoor pest management, sustainable food systems, antimicrobial resistance, plant reproduction, equine health technologies, artificial intelligence in agriculture, insect adaptation to extreme environments, and consumer food purchasing behavior.
These projects aim to improve agricultural productivity, sustainability, food security, animal health, and public health. Researchers are also exploring innovative technologies and data-driven solutions to address emerging challenges across agriculture and related industries.
The 2026 Early-Career Professors are focusing on fermentation technologies, nutrition and gut health, Alpha-gal Syndrome, equine injury prevention, and beef industry sustainability. Their research is designed to support industry growth while improving animal welfare, human health, and environmental outcomes.
By supporting both established and emerging faculty members, The Bill Gatton Foundation Professorships continue to advance scientific discovery and innovation. The program reinforces the University of Kentucky's commitment to developing practical solutions that benefit agriculture, communities, and future generations.
