Seeds Canada honoured Georges Chaussé and Senator Rob Black with its 2026 Award of Excellence for their leadership, advocacy, and lasting contributions to Canada’s seed sector.

Seeds Canada has named Georges Chaussé and Senator Rob Black as recipients of the 2026 Award of Excellence, recognizing their long-standing contributions to Canada’s seed sector and their leadership in advancing the industry.

Georges Chaussé was honoured for his nearly 40-year career in the seed industry. He helped expand the Elite Seeds brand across Quebec and Atlantic Canada and played a key role in the Seed Synergy Collaboration Project, which ultimately led to the creation of Seeds Canada.

Blake Ashton praised Chaussé’s leadership and dedication, describing him as “a builder, a collaborator, and an outstanding servant to our industry.”

As a former president of the Canadian Seed Trade Association and a founding member of the Seeds Canada board, Chaussé helped guide significant industry transformation and organizational collaboration.

Senator Rob Black received the award for his advocacy on behalf of Canadian agriculture and the seed sector. Since joining the Senate in 2018, he has championed science-based regulations, plant breeding innovation, and policies that support Canadian producers.

Seeds Canada Past-President Ellen Sparry highlighted Black’s ability to connect farmers, industry leaders, and government, helping strengthen collaboration across the agricultural sector.

Accepting the award, Black acknowledged the contributions of those working throughout the seed value chain and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the industry. The recognition celebrates the lasting impact both recipients have had on Canadian agriculture, innovation, and the continued growth of the seed sector.
