Media ArticleCornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) has appointed Judson Reid as assistant director for agriculture and food systems. In his new role, Reid will oversee the CCE Regional Agriculture Teams and help strengthen connections between Cornell research and New York farmers.
Reid will lead a statewide network of 10 regional agriculture teams that support sectors including dairy, livestock, field crops, horticulture, vegetables, fruit production, viticulture, and urban agriculture. More than 100 Cornell specialists work through these teams to provide research-based solutions and technical support to producers across the state.
A Cornell College of Agriculture and Life Sciences graduate, Reid currently serves as CCE’s statewide Critical Issue Lead for agriculture and food systems. He works on key agricultural challenges while supporting programs that promote the long-term growth and sustainability of New York agriculture.
Reid also directs the Harvest New York economic development initiative. The program focuses on strengthening local food systems, supporting emerging crops, expanding urban agriculture, and improving agricultural climate resilience.
His extension career began in Yates County, where he worked directly with growers and gained experience in county-level agricultural programming. He later joined the Cornell Vegetable Program and became known for his expertise in greenhouse production, season-extension practices, and vegetable crop management.
With experience at the county, regional, and statewide levels, Reid brings a strong understanding of New York agriculture to his new position. His leadership is expected to support collaboration among researchers, extension specialists, and farmers while advancing food systems programs across the state.
